What tyres to chose....

In my earlier days of riding there were two types of tyres for a bike like this, knobbies that would be great off road, but illegal on the road, or something like a dual purpose tyre that was ok at best off road but good on road and indeed road legal. I assume nearly every rider would want road legal options. Now I know there have been knobby type tyres that are road legal around for some time now that didn't exist when I was in my 20's and riding dual purpose bikes a lot. For me I think something that's a lot better in the dirt than the dual purpose tyres of my day but are still safe on the tarmac would be the way to go. What would you consider?

I like the big block Kendas and Shinkos. Both have worked well for me.
