Yamaha Tenere 700 Oil filter list

NOTE: This engine is the exact same as the MT-07, the CP-2. Below is a proven list of compatible oil filters that will fit the Tenere 700 . We will update this as things change. 

 I no longer recommend the K&N filters. They used to be made by Hiflofiltro but changed suppliers and now they are failing and leaking oil. Multiple reports of this still occurring with K&N.

 

Hiflofiltro still makes their own filters and they are among the best for the money. This one has the 17mm nut on the end to make removing really easy with a 17mm wrench or socket.  HIFLOWFILTRO H204 RC Black Oil Filter
 
YAMAHA Genuine Oil Filter for the T7 is Part Number is  5GH-13440-60-00 get it here cheaper than dealer

 

You will also need M-14 Crush Washer for oil drain bolt. Here is a ten pack

 
The following are also reported by FZ07/Tenere 700 owners as being compatible. And before anyone starts pointing out a favorite, remember that more important than brand of filter or oil is actual Frequency of oil and filter change.

Hey that's cool. It takes the same filters as my MT09. I use the HiFlo HF204RC with the hex head on the end, and get them from here in packs of 8 or 10 to reduce the price per unit.

I have 30000klms on my MT09 and changing every 5000 with a few extras in the first few thousand, have gone through 9 or 10 filters already and onto my next bulk order.

It is so easy to change the oil and filter on these bikes.

HI there, I assume this engine is not dry sump?  The old XTZ750 was, so changing the oil was a bit more fiddly... you had to bleed the air out.

The T700 is not a dry sump, but may be a little more fiddly than the MT07 if the bash plate needs to be removed. 

The 690 KTM and 701 Husky are annoying with two small oil filters to replace and an oil screen. The KTM 790 has an oil screen under the sump plug and takes a strange elongated internal filter (same as other big KTMs at least), which would be much more difficult to get to and replace with all the body work in the way, and harder to find a replacement in remote areas (not to mention the cost of replacement at $28.50 AUD each).

These same filters also work on the CP3 motors if any of you own a bike with one, saves us money buying one filter size for multiple bikes

Same filter, just different part number. Most dealers and retailers have a ton of the -60's left. Same exact filter.

This is a very common motorcycle oil filter, AT, CB500X, and on and on. I've been getting mine from Wally World, the SuperTech ST6607 (made by Champion) less than $2.

Yeah I've tried to get the SuperTech ST6607 at Walmart for a few years but the Walmart's near me never have any and they are not available for order or pickup either.  Don't know why .

I made the mistake of crawling into the octagon, LOL. Filters, oil, and tires.

I've been using them for years with no issues, but then again I rarely run my oil more than 2500mi just old habit going back to my dirt bike daze, even then it was a lot less miles. Bike trannys are hard on oil.

The thread referenced looks like it's from 2010 the data may or may not be valid today.

 

I have been using cheap oil filters and Rotella including the Super Techs for a long time with out an engine failure. My ST1300 currently has 125K, my Wing has 62K, S10 has 51K, and AT 18K miles.  After break in I do 5K mile oil change intervals.  YMMV

Ah, most people are avoiding the K&N oil filters. They went cheap, switched suppliers and their filters are bursting and failing. 

 

If you want the K&N oil filter, get the Hiflowfiltro filter. That is who used to make them for K&N, before K&N went cheap and switched to chinese.

Hey um, can we add a warning to HiFlow 198 - It’s not compatible with Outback’s skid plate. The 17mm nut extends into the plate haha

 

EDIT: I'd also like to add my dealer reccommends Yamaha part number 5GH-13440-61.

 

Not sure why it hasn't been changed yet, but part #61 is way easier to find on Amazon and is what my dealer in LA recommends.
