Christopher’s bike history

I bought my very first bike in 1981 for $500. It was a Kawasaki ke175 that was street-legal(ish).

Next was a 1982 Suzuki Katana 750 I bought in 1986 and kept until I moved across the country in 1988.

Then came a long bike-free gap (marriage, kids, career) until 1998 and my gsx-r 1100. In 1999 I added an old Honda xr-200 to the garage.

In 2003 I sold the gixxer and bought my first “adventure bike”, a Cagiva-Ducati 900cc Elefant. I forget the year but it was the maroon/silver mid-ninties model. I didn’t keep it for long, as parts were notoriously hard to find and I didn’t want to spend all my time searching for bits & bobs.

In 2008 I bought an old vfr750 and in 2011 a st1300. In 2012 I found a 1988 Dr Big that I refurbished and used for backcountry riding on Vancouver Island.

In 2015 I bought my wr250r and pared the stable down to just it. It’s a great trail & city bike, but I’ve found it just a little too underpowered for long distance travel. There’s where the Tenere 700 comes in!
