Your skid plate.. Love it? Hate it?

Thought I’d showcase the @Camel ADV gut guard in silver (haven’t seen too many pics of it yet). Unfortunately I don’t have a bike to mount it on yet, but the quality and finish is incredible! A really well though out product. Thanks Cory.

I mounted my Gut Guard the other night. I'm slightly uneasy about all those nylocks pointed at the tender bits the skid plate is protecting! Other than that, it lined up perfectly. Beautiful piece of kit. 🤩

For me its all about weight reduction, i will be looking to fit a carbon plate.

Yes it will not last like an ali or steel plate but 203kg! My bike is going on a diet.

After seeing those photos of when Cory purposely beached his T7 on a big log, I'd have all the confidence this thing  will hold up and do the job of protecting everything.

Does anyone currently offer one or are you working on something yourself?

I have not come across any yet but i will most likely take the standard plate to an engineering workshop that 3d prints, there are a few established companies that already offer custom carbon parts for bikes that replace original panels etc.

I love the camel adv rendition of the T7, i didn't like it in competition white until i see what they produced.

I have the high guard kit on order.

@Calibre*I re-read this post this morning and it comes across a bit condescending. I promise it was not intended to be in that tone at all!*

Did you notice the bolt pattern of the Nylocs isn't symmetrical? It's almost like they were intentionally placed so they weren't directly under the "tender bits" the skid plate is suppose to protect😉

The ACD really looks nice. Beautiful welds, the 2 things that concern me is that it's only 3mm thick which is the same on the thin stock skid plate, albet better coverage and that there is no rear linkage protection. Other than that, for the price I think if you weren't really doing any off-road with it, you can't beat the price. Really nice looking in black.

I have the sw motech one and the coverage and strength are good. It did start to corrode pretty quick which doesn't really matter as its never clean anyway. Also had to cut for the heed bars.

I got that when there wasn't too many out there but I would get the Camal if I was doing it now for sure.

@Camel ADV just posted the gut guard install video. Cory does a good job towards the end going through all the design considerations, including the nylocs.

@Camel ADV Thanks for the info. That's what I get for being an early (Canadian) adopter! I'll watch the install video to see what I did wrong, lol. It might help the curious if you put all the tech info on the item's page. Weight, technical details, design thoughts, etc?

I hesitate to include weight on a product like this. It's problematic because some people will use it soley as a deciding factor for purchase without really considering what it means. There are lots of competing skid plates that are 1/8" aluminum, our's is 3/16". Our's is automatically 33% heavier due to material thickness but also stronger because of it. Add our 5th mounting point bracket and UHMW slip liner with the linkage protector and we'll be 50%(?) heavier. Good protection weighs more than lesser protection. Weight is good info to have but it's best used with all the other factors for a complete picture.

Lighter isn't always better. A great example of this is the windshield mount on the Africa Twin, its cast aluminum right side footpeg mount and side stand. All three parts are light weight/light duty parts that often fail and cause lots of issue for AT owners. If those parts had been beefed up from the factory, the bike would have been 3lbs heavier and not had those three huge failure points. Of course, if they had done that, I wouldn't have sold thousands of braces and steel side stands to fix the issue so it's great for me, terrible for the bike's owners.

I had a rough idea of the weight from the pics and specs. I knew it was no ballerina, haha. My USD-Marzocchi-forked *bicycle* weighs 48lbs, so it's fine with me :-). But it might be a deciding factor for the kind of rider who drops 2 bills on a battery to save 3 lbs.

 Hi

just ordered mine from rugged roads.  Looking at the camel website, the new ones seem slightly different on the side?
Was it a easy install do you have any pics with it on bike

cheers

@David Adams still love it. Was really easy to install, looks great and is super tough. I do believe I read that he changed the 5th (rear) mount from one bolt to 2 to accommodate for center stand compatability. Mine is the original 1 bolt design and I don’t run a center stand.

a couple pics from yesterday. It’s plenty tough!

Has anybody tried the AXP-Racing skid plate?

Yes I like it.   Light weight. Should provide enough protection for the type of riding I plan on doing.

Installs easy. Even with a center stand already installed.  Some pics below. I did add two small rubber grommets to keep the plate from rubbing on the engine. Circled in the close up photos below.

Anyone have any experience with the AS3 skid plate?  Looks well built and at a good price

I really like the overall coverage and look of my SW-MOTECH bash plate.  It does have a bit of a sound vibration to it that made me think something was wrong at 1st tho.
