T7 on street/highways

T7 owners: Do you feel if this bike is somewhat under-powered for street/highway riding? I am in the city and most good trails are at least 100 miles out.

I test rode one recently (Yamaha demo truck event) but didn't really get a chance to open the throttle during the group ride. Have been debating between this and the Scrambler 1200XE. The latter can be bought below MSRP so price difference (in US) at this point is insignificant. I am leaning more towards the T7 as the Triumph appears to have some rear suspension issues (flawed design, see attachment).

Go for the T7, but be warned, the manufacturer doesn't tell potential customers about the road hazards involved from all the panties dropping to the ground when you ride this baby by!

T7 owners can chime in with their confirmations!

Although it's "only" 70 or so BHP, it feels much more the way the power is delivered. I don't think it feels under-powered at all and I'd happily ride it 500 miles in one day if I had to. Real world keep up with anything and you get to do off-roading when you get there.

My first car was a Ford Escort in Mexico, weighing about 800kg and 86hp. There was enough power for fast driving on the motorway or Ruuhimäki (Finnish rally special stage)🤓

The T7 is 200kg and 73hp ... hmmm ...

I have been driving T7 highway 120-140kmh without any problems, CP2 is a good engine and power enough for highway. If you drive a lot at high speed, replace the front sprocket 16T.

I guess it also depends on what you're comparing it to, and your definition of adquate power.

Years ago (2015) when I test rode a Yamaha Super Tenere 1200, it felt incredibly underpowered, down right wheezy with no upper end power at all.    Same day I test rode a V-Strom 1000, slightly better, but still waaaaaaay felt waaaay underpowered compared to what I was used to.    Both the S10 and V-STrom are excellent and capable highway bikes.

But I rode my Suzuki B-King  (a Naked Hayabusa) to the dealer, almost anything would have felt wheezy compared to riding a fully modded and tuned bike with 185hp at the wheel.

Infact, the only bikes that felt just barely adquate at the time were the Ducati Multistrada 1200 and KTM 1290 Super Adventure.

But needs and wants change over time.

Does the T7 have enough power for highway use?  absolutely!
As many owners have pointed out, and reviwers alike, the T7 cp2 689cc engine is quite punchy for its size and is a hoot to ride.  One owner just recently posted that he got a top speed of 113mph.  I think thats fast enough for most highways.

It is all relative, I have had bikes that had no problem doing wheelies at 100mph. or where very capable going 170mph while riding two up. No the T7 won't do any of those things and frankly at my age neither will I.

The other day I went for a ride two up with the wife, the T7 had no problem cruising along at the posted speed limit of 75mph. didn't have any problem maintaining speed climbing grades.

So as I said it is all relative, if you want something to take to the dry lake beds and set some new world record this is not the bike.

If you want something that can go whatever distance you need on the highway at posted speeds even riding two up, and than be more than capable to tackle the off road section when you arrive you won't be disappointed in the T7.

Its a brilliant highway bike, just done over 200 miles and easy ti keep up with bigger bikes. Change front sprocket to 16 t and it changes it

I cruise at 80mph indicated which is correct speedo reading and the bike loves it... No complains here.. I avoid motorways as they are boring and only tend to plan 2 h a day of motorway to cover distance if needed.

More than capable  💯🏍️💨

I commute 80 miles a day with 60 of them on motorway/highway. Steady as a rock and no problem what so ever at 80mph. Changed the tyres to TKC 70s which i find much better for road riding. You will though need to change the screen to a touring one as the original is as good as useless at constant high speeds. One more thing to keep in mind is that in wet weather you have very little protection so you need appropriate clothes as well.
