Lightweight top and side racks combo for soft panniers

Thanks guys.  I'm picturing waisting half my riding season with the bike sitting at the dealer while they wait for a Yamaha rep to show up, etc.  They don't have any other T7's to compare with.  T7's don't sit on the floor here yet.

The alignment is so far off I'm afraid of causing stress cracks in the aluminum if I "persuade" it that far.  After some measurements, I decided to order spacers that are 4mm shorter for the lower mounts.  It will line up pretty well at that point.

Has anyone ever been able to run Adv spec or any of these lightweight side racks with Yamaha's OEM rear rack?

Lots of options shown by members. I’ve got the Rally Raid and B&B compact combo. Bulk of gear on the sides to keep weight down low and minimal on the rear rack. As mentioned keep the seat clear for freedom of movement.

Cheers

Here are a couple ways.

First is horizontal. This is the easiest and the way I run them.  The Velcro D-rings used on top I got from Wolfman. I don’t think they sell them anymore.

You don’t need the D rings but the strap will probably scratch the grab rail.

You can also run them vertical but they fit better horizontal.

I'm not clear on what you're asking.

Do you want to know how tall the bag is mounted vertically?

Do you want to know the attachment point spacing?

Does anyone have the Tusk rack and has a few miles or a trip on it and can say how you like it?

Kinda fugly and stick out a lot.

They're about $230. Work with hard boxes or soft bags. The Tusk bags look okay in the pics. Haven't seen one yet.

I wonder if its a good choice.

Maybe to throw a wrench in the works here, but I run the Mosko Reckless system and don't use a rack system at all.  I just sit it on the rear seat, wrap the straps around the underside, the two to the pegs, and it's been completely fine.  Great to be able to undo some straps and the bike is completely bare again.

Anyone running the Kriega OS-Base with ADV-Spec side and rear racks? Wondering how fitment is with the T7-Specific base combined with the racks. I’m aware that the straps are too short for use with a rally seat but I see that Kriega now offers pillion peg replacement loops specifically for use with a rally seat, which I assume brings the attachment point close enough to work. I wonder if the side racks interfere with the fitment or not.

I've got the adventure spec side and rear rack, lightweight set up. But I think that I would get the B&B rear rack ( was not  available at the time I purchased) I  found the side rails  get in the way of soft  luggage pushing it out further and wider than I would like. But it does give tie down points.

How much is the weight of the Adventure spec top rack and side rack?

Question? Does the paint scratch on the sides under the bags? Ive had some rackless backs on other bikes but had always scratch-marks from the bags or straps (even when I put towels or other sealing in between.)

I like the concept of the AS side racks that it keeps space between the softbags and the bike-plastics.

I started with the AS rear rack, and was going to add the AS side racks for a Mosko Rackless 80. I found that the rails from the AS rack pushed the Mosko bags out so that they barely touch the plastics, and I therefore didn't add side racks. I did add some clear plastic film  just in case. I like the AS side racks, but I don't need them.

The other option is to accept scratches/rub marks and replace the rear plastics at some point down the line. Cheaper than a set of racks.

Doesn't help if you need a showroom bike, but I'm not a rack fan and think the tape looks gash .

What was the outcome of this, Toei?

It's been a year so I had to refresh on the history of this.  I took the passenger foot peg mounts off, and ended up using custom spacers all around.  I integrated the AS side racks with a B&B Off-road rear rack, and needed custom spacers to do that anyway.  It took a couple of tries (spacer orders) to get everything dialed in perfectly.

I bought these side and top rack from a guy named Ondra. The way to connect with him is via Instagram. I live in Sweden and received them within a week!

Looks nice. Any idea of the weight? I read it is 5mm aluminum.

Top rack is about 3lb, side rack 4lb. That's including mounting kits.

Outback Motortek top rack with XL Enduristan soft bags.  No side racks.  I put plastic adhesive sheets on to protect the paint on the side panels.  I also carry tools and water in small Enduristan bags on my OEM crash bars.  My rig for longs trips...

Which bags from Enduristan do you have on the crash bars?

Crash bar bags are Enduristan base packs.  6.5L  These packs also clip on to the bottom of the Blizzard bags...
