What's the purpose of cutting up the tank? Increasing capacity?

And a flush mount cap.

Cool. Can't wait to see the final version. How much capacity are you aiming for? Going up or out or both?

I think I have Yamaha disease...

Great to see what you guys are doing.

Hey Aleks  I would love to replicate what you have done, have you experienced any downside to your brake conversion, do you experience any more fade due to heat then the twin calipre setup.

I was wondering about trying to use a 6 pot brake calibre off an r1 as I see they can be purchased second hand quite cheaply whereas the Berringer looked quite expensive.

Do you have any photos of the brake set-up and were you able to buy the mounting bracket or did you have to buy it.

The 6 pot and single disc have no fade,... I ride hard and wasn't completely happy with the stock setup... The current brakes allow me to brake from 100 mph to a second gear corner let's say 35mph really late and there is no fade whatsoever.... Amazing stopping power... There is no bracket the caliper bolts on straight to the fork just needs 3.0mm washer on the inside... To line up with disc...

Hey Aleks,

Thanks for the photos.

Your setup looks great, I would love to do similar. I have a few questions

1. What diameter and brand is the disc,is it off an R1

2. Have you changed to a 17in front wheel, gone motard

3. Have you gone tubeless if so was it worth it

4. Are you still using the original master cylinder, if not what are you using.

Starting to come together. Still need to paint the radiator, and the crash bars, finish the fuel tank, finish the carbon fiber headlight support rods, tidy a bit of wiring....

looks great.

How much weight were you able to remove with your head light mod and do you have any close up photos of how you have used the carbon fibre rod.

Do you notice any extra vibes by removing the handlebar end weights.

What brand are your hand guards and do you know what they weigh.

Is your engine baseplate plastic or alloy

The disc is 320mm and is for a R1 2004 to 2006 5vy.

Yes the bike has 17 inch front and back since 2k miles now heading towards 7k miles.

Tubes are still in.

Master cylinder is galespeed 17.5mm with adjustable ratio.

Check my other thread where I have more photos of the master and the caliper plus drawings in cad. Search Beringer and you will find it.

Would not be able to tell you precisely but if like to think she could potentially be at 195kg wet if not less... I need to to some maths.

Hi all,

I have just watched a video from Moto Geo: Ride, Strip and Rip! / Yamaha Ténéré 700 / T7 / Roland Sands Design / @MotoGeo Adventures - YouTube

They strip 30 lbs down from the original bike... Now we all know we are not going to ride like he did and have a T7 that has no fairings but what is achievable ?

Back exhaust 4kg

Headers 3.5kg

Battery 2.0kg

Tail tidy 1.0kg

Passenger foot pegs 1kg

I will base these numbers mostly on my bike which does not have crash bars, centre stand so I am confident that it will meet the 205kg full wet weight.

11.5kg from stock = 205- 11.5kg =193.5kg ( this is presuming your bike was without crash bars and centre stand )

I am in the middle of changing the front dual setup to a single disc setup

Stock Brembo without pads : 0.75kg x2 = 1.5kg

Pads :  0.15kg = 0.3kg

Discs : 1.4kg x 2 = 2.8 kg

Braided lines estimate : 1.5kg

Total : 6.1kg

Beringer 6 piston with Pads : 1.05 kg

Disc R1 320mm : 1.5kg

Braided line  estimate : 1.0kg

Total: 3.55 kg

Difference : 2.55 kg

For people who will use a 4 pot calliper and a single disc conversion the reduction will be greater but it needs to be verified.

Presuming the above is correct the bike should now have : 190.95kg

ABS delete plus braided line direct for back and front estimate : 3kg ( please correct me if I have under or overestimated this )

Bike weight with all the above : 184.95 kg full wet

I would like to add more items to the above list or correct the above if it is wrong and have this as weight saving thread. Once I have finished my conversion I will get the bike on the scales to see how it copes.

Please feel free to reply with suggestions on weight reduction or actual measurements.

Now that you removed the abs system do you have a constant light on the dash ?

Hi , The light is off and Speedo works because the ABS pump is still inside but plugged the holes with screws. Also the ABS ecu unit that controls the speedo is still in and everything works as before just no ABS.

The T7 is around 450 pounds stock. As with a fat woman wearing black, if you love her enough, you don’t notice

A couple of questions for the T700 owners.  30 years I've been riding dirt bikes.  Looking at the T7 and KTM 790.  Why oh why does nobody make aluminum radiator guards like we have on all the dirt bikes instead of steel radiator crash bars that weigh more than 4kg's?

Can someone confirm if the radiator is aluminum or steel please?  These rad guards are on my ktm 500 and I don't understand why ones couldn't be made to encompass the whole surround of the radiator for stronger protection of the 200 KG bike.

I'm eagerly awaiting the MST rally tank to be made that mirrors the KTM fuel tank design, this will also act as a radiator guard and do away with the need for crash bars for the radiator and save roughly a KG of up high weight.

Aleksander13 thank you for your feedback on the performance of your braking package.  I have a Brembo radial master, Brembo M50 4 piston caliper and 320mm rotor to go but have heard the M50 is fine in the dirt, but not enough power for aggressive pavement riding.  Again, you had no detectable fade at all with your setup and the power was worlds stronger than the stock brakes?

Thanks everyone for the contributions.

Hi

very interesting thread :)

Setup not final :D

heavier Barkbuster Guards ~ 1Kg+

very little light subframe/ rear rack 0,5-1 kg i think ~ under 1Kg +

yamaha main stand till i have get my wheels in gold 🙂, will be gone after this 3,8 Kg +-

akrapovic titan slip on -~2,3 Kg

akrapovic header  -3,5Kg

no Passenger foot pegs -1Kg

Battery ~ - 2 Kg

There is a nice video for a new rally light in future, about 2,5 Kg safe 🙂

I have to check about lighter mirrors aswell and a single disc convention.

I dont now how much i  have safe ( hope so 😄 ) about my tail tidy.

with a lighter tank 1,5-3 Kg maybe

and  supermoto wheels, oz piega 3-4 Kg and lighter Tubeless tires 🙂 1-2 Kg ?

I think it will be possible to strip 20-25 kg and still have "oem" look,

in comparison to a gp mucci, i like the rally look and not only the look ( its made for rally 🙂 )

i have to check for pictures with weight.

for many people weight reduction is not the key, they say something like, then i could go safe 5 Kg and eat not so much, but

its not about you. i have done weightreduction to my KTM 640 (660 😄 LC4 SM and the 1290 SDR.

you can feel it very good, and if you go for rotating mass aswell in combination with more hp 😉 , fun is getting started.

Kind regards mrd

PS.: I have the dynojet Power Vision 3 with the combination Twinair Kit and full decat Akrapovic :)

If People want to unleash the true potential of this cp2 engine, i can highly recommand a slip on with the twin air kit in combination first and a DJ PV3 flash.

After this first one the tenere have changed from a 2 cylinder to a one cylinder bike for me, a very funny wheelie maschine :).

with the full akra you get more peak and less weight :D. Have fun

Thank you for sharing I really love this look. I am seriously considering stripping her down just for the look and any weight reduction is a benefit.

Thank you for sharing this with us... Would it be best add all of these items in a spreadsheet and share them at some point..? I will try and make one and share in the first post.. Once I have my front brake removed and changed to a single disc I will weigh everything and post here but will also like to weigh the bike.
