Made my own skid plate from fibreglass carbon Kevlar. I used the existing bash plate as a template I had an extension of aluminium to protect the rear shock on the existing aluminium plate. I ground down the rivets and used cardboard and plasticine to get the finished shape.  I then covered the whole lot with wide masking tape, then used wax and my wife’s hairspray as a release. Layed up one layer of biaxial and 2 layers of carbon Kevlar. Next day I released it from the plug and layed up more biaxial and Kevlar on the inside when this was hard I trimmed everything gave the outside a coat of clear epoxy the inside a coat of grey epoxy paint and sprinkled some paint chips. 2 coats of polyurethane to finish.  I had the polyurethane and epoxy paint other than that the cost was less than $100.

Fine had a really big day off-road 2 days ago about 300km with some hard riding. Heard some rocks hitting the bash plate. I’m glad I’ve got something stronger than the basic plate. If I hadn’t used the carbon Kevlar you could make a good bash plate for under $50.

Not today, but last weekend I made a GPS mount that bolted to the Rally Raid Top Clamp. Still a little rough, I wanted to see if it would work before I spent more time making it pretty.

Installed my new Eastern Beaver PC-8 with the Aux Splitter. Got the GPS mounted and a dual USB / Voltage display installed and wiring run back to the PC-8. Some cleanup still needed but getting better.

The PC-8 install is super easy and literally a plug and play setup with no complicated wiring, splicing or tapping required. Remove a few panels, remove the spare Aux power cap under right side fairing and plug the PC-8 into it... I used a splitter cable but same thing. Wire to the battery and done.

Still direct to battery are the Jump Start plug, Warn winch plug (yellow/blue cables), SAE trickle charger plug and of course the PC-8 and bike itself.

also installed a new radiator guard.

ohh and shaved a spare WRR seat foam down to put on my kids TTR125 so he can get his toes on the ground. 😆

How do you have your Eastern Beaver PC8 attached? Or is it just kind of sitting there. I'm trying to install mine but I'm struggling to find a good spot for it. Thanks!

It’s just tucked in there. The wires keep it secured decently.

New bike with 0 km on it.  Wanted to get everything greased up before riding season begins.

Last week I removed the swingarm and linkage for greasing.  Everything pretty much dry with only a very light coating of oil.

Today I thought I would remove the shifter and brake pedal as well to make sure they would be good for a while.  Both bone dry, but damn they don't skimp on Locktite.

Personally I can't remember ever having an issue with shifter or brake pedal coming loose over time.  I much prefer a coating of never seize over locktite.

If you haven't done yours get them greased.

good I think it will be fine. The standard bahplate had so many holes in it. Bit of piece of mind Id hate to put a hole in my sump in the middle of nowhere.

I had some paint chips left over from epoxy in my garage floor and used it on my plastic panels that I scratched and the inside of the bash plate

If you use a holesaw to cut some holes for airflow in the sumpguard make sure they are on the side and evenly spaced. One hole is out a bit on mine buts it’s not noticeable. I used some plastic gutter guard hot glued on the inside to stop any stones or rubbish getting in. I drilled 2 holes on the bottom to help get rid of any water

Fitted some Acerbis frame guards, noticed I was getting a bit of boot rub on LHS.

Look ok but will probably mod the mounting and use cable ties instead of the supplied o-rings.

Installed my new Rally Raid Excel Rims with the BarTubless process.  Everything switched over great and they hold air fine without tubes.

  • 2 weeks later...

In my commitment to lowering the bike enough for me, with lowered shock and springs, the side stand fix was relatively easy. Just ordered the shorter Camel Adv side stand. The center stand was harder. While the OEM center stand I had technically worked in my smooth, flat garage, I knew the real world would soon smack me down. Besides, it was a beast to put up on the center stand and the wheel was WAY up in the air!

After finding no good alternatives, I took the stock center stand to a local metal fabrication shop that had done some work for me and they cut an inch off the stock stand and rewelded it. Worked great, although through no fault of their own (all my own mistake), the stand in the up position hit the passenger peg bracket. So I did what I had been intending to do anyway - took them off! 😉  Just needed some shorter replacement bolts.

Works great now! Easy up and down. Bike looks better without the passenger pegs too!

Do you think their will be any issues with your new passenger peg brackets chafing the reckless’s straps? Ive been thinking about this as my boots sometimes hit the passenger pegs and it annoys me. But i want them on their (so far until I find an alternative) for a smooth strap mount location. I like what you’ve done but chafing would be my concern.

I filed and sanded all the edges smooth and the straps will be pulled tight. So I’m not too concerned about chafing. That said I may actually put 1 inch spacer tubes between the plates and the frame to give a smoother wrap point.

Those look really nice. Think I will get them too. Could you post a pic where I can see the whole bike from the side. I just would like to see how they fit the red bike.
Thank you!

I think the carbon effect vinyl frame stickers look better but these will probably be harder wearing plus they guard the rear master cylinder. I drilled some holes in them and cable tied them on, not sure why Acerbis used o-rings for these when most of their dirtbike guards use ties.

Many thanks Alan! They look great and I will get those, probably will also drill some holes. Like you I used Acerbis frame protectors on my other dirt bikes. God knows why they decided to use o-rings but I guess it is because they thought zip ties may look too coarse on a bike used mainly on roads (by most owners).

Cheers

After much deliberation and research I've finally fitted SRC upper crash bars.

Nice finish and easy installation.

@rumrum bought these crash bars to my attention with one of his posts.
