What have you done for your T7 today?

My Kenda big blocks look similar to that. I was having too much fun lighting up the rear both on and off road. Must take it easy I keep telling myself. Bet you had a blast, despite the wear.

Easier said to oneself than done,

ya? A blast was definitely had!

Geeze, is that from just one ride?  They don’t look so bad ass anymore..LOL.

Uh Oh @Rich TT, i just spooned on a set of Kenda Big Blocks on a KTM 390 Adventure. Is that what i can expect for the little bore?

Sadly, yes. One (rather aggressive) ride on some typical rocky local terrain. To say I was a little shocked would be an understatement. They’re certainly more affordable than many other options, but the ‘why’ may have just revealed itself...

Nah, you'll be fine. I've just been aggressive with mine. It doesn't take much throttle on the grunty T7 to spin the rear Kenda up on the road wet or dry. I do have a set of proper off road wheels with a 2.5 inch rear, so I spooned a 140 on it as it should be for this size rim. It hooks up real well off road, but probably a bit more lively on the road due to a narrower rubber patch on the road.

Cheers

Added some Donner-Tech bling today - GPS mount and cockpit stabilizer. Absolutely beautiful CNC work. Ready for powered Garmin AMPS mount as well, the 2 pin connector for the RH side just arrived. I am against splicing wires and am always looking for the plug and play solution. This was the final step before I dig into Canadas' 24 hour Dacre Rally. Woot Woot!

Changed the oil and the oilfilter.

Mounted a Arcebis chain guard.

Put both tires on pressure, ready to ride tomorrow.

What's the benefit of a chain guard?

Keeps sticks and other things out from between the chain and sprocket which can pop the chain off the sprocket or worse.

I was drooling over their rear rack but there was no way that I could justify the cost of it to myself.  Especially when I would just beat the crap out of it.

Installed 6.3N fork springs and 90N shock spring.

Only a short ride but the bike feels better with a much more firm feel.  Hopefully I can get out on a longer ride next week and get the damping sorted.

I will ride the bike for a while before I revalve the forks and local suspension shop will do the shock at some point.  I want to get a better feel of what it needs before I send it off to the local shop.

Nice setup, why do you choose the 90 Nm rear spring? Crash bars, racks on the bike? Whats your weight?

I am 100kg in street clothes.

I was considering a 95N spring but the Ktech spring free length is 6mm longer than stock.  With the extra 6mm of spring preload my calculations were showing at 0 clicks on the preload adjuster I would be a little short of the desired 60mm rider sag.

As it sits now I have 4 clicks on the preload adjuster to reach 59-60mm rider sag.

Bike/free sag is 18mm, so I am pretty happy with results.

I am sure I could have used a 95N with fine results as well.

I have Outback crash bars /skidplate and a homemade rear rack.

I have been running the bike for a month or so with the stock spring and a homemade spring spacers to get the sag correct.  Even with the soft spring the ride has not been too bad after the sag was corrected.  This is another reason I decided to go with the slightly lighter spring.

KTech, 6.3N springs with no extra spacers have me right at 60mm rider sag.  If I feel too much brake dive up front  I will add a few mm of spacers up front to help combat that.

Both ends need to be revalved for sure.  I have most of the shims on hand, but need a few more shims before I can do the forks.

I was hoping I could do this summer with the stock shock valving, but if it is real bad I will send the shock out to get revalved at some point.

I use a Wahoo bike computer for navigation and I designed and printed a mount for the top bar above the display:

Here's a video of how it works:

I've ridden around town and can use all the buttons and such without any movement.  Blasted up and down a washboard fire road near my house and so far super solid.  This was a proof of concept.  I'm going to refine the design for version two.

I installed mud tires. Not “tires for mud” mind you. Tires made out of mud that’s like cake frosting...sticks to the tires better than the dry stuff underneath the top, sticky layer.  🎂

Here are my mods that i've done lately.

1. Oxford heated grips. Great choice.

2. Quadlock wireless charger and old Samsung Android for navigating. Screen is not bright enough during day time, so I'm not completely happy with that.

3. Barkbuster Storm handguards.

4. Removed the stock mirrors and installed cheap 12€ mirrors from Aliexpress. Looks great, works great and quite easy install.

Only issue is that now I have to figure out how to fix the Oxford controller. I think mirror mount has reverse tread and I couldn't find suitable fix from my local hardware store.

5.  Windscreen riser, also from Aliexpress - cannot ride without rised windscreen anymore. I also added old visor below the rised screen and feels like this helps a little bit.

Overall I think I still need to rise the windscreen few more cm, I'm 192cm btw. Windnoise is not terrible but could be better. Has anybody experience with these things?

image.png.6ec9811e5e172c175767c6a305f0b61c.png

6. Touratech crashbar. Looks great I think but has only two mounting points so I'm still not very comfortable with the idea of dropping the bike.

7. Antenna for walki-talkie which I keep in the Giant Loop handelbar bag.

8. Handelbar riser, 2cm.

To do list for near future:

1. T7Rally Tail tidy

2. Short levers

3. Tubeless

4. Tire pressure monitors

5. Heed rear crash bar

Added an MRA clear tour screen.

10cm higher than OEM.

Being 176cm tall , the OEM screen windnoise was unbearable,

this update made it 10 times better !

I installed some stainless mesh behind the plastic radiator grill. Simple & didn't cost anything as a friend had some mesh.

Should keep the large bugs &  rock off the radiator.

can anyone recommend a tail bag to go on it something that you can clip on and don’t have to strap on

Here you go. I also bought some rubber washers from Bauhaus to fit between mirror mount and handguard, gives litle distance from handguard and adds some flex.

Hey Chris, I have the same tail rack and fitted the Nelson Rigg Commuter Touring bag it is perfect for my needs with heaps of room and can be expanded to hold a full face helmet I cut the straps down and they stay permanently on the rack even with the bag removed.
