got a chance to get some dirt on the tires today. Felt really comfortable after being off two wheels for 20 years. Man, I really missed having a bike.

Going back a bit, what are the decals like to put on? I’ll do anything mechanical but my ‘blue Peter’/art class type skills are Shet. Are they moveable when they first go on(wet?) or stick fast straight away?

cheers

You have two options. A dry or wet application. I did the tail section dry and the rest of the bike wet, using Windex misted on the back of the decal and the bike. I would suggest using the wet method for positioning ease and it gets all the air out as you squeegee the Windex out with a credit card or similar tool. At first you may not think it’s going to stick, but as you get the Windex squeezed out, the adhesive will tack right up. I also suggest using a heat gun (sparingly) in certain sections that don’t want to lay down or conform.

It’s not a difficult process but it does require a certain technique to ensure the stress is out of the material to prevent lifting in the future.

Got out in the sand dunes today to practice with a fully loaded bike. I can say for certain the Scott’s steering damper is the best investment I’ve made. When it’s off, the bike is almost unridable in soft sand. But when cranked up to 6-7 clicks from full the bike just cruises through deep sand like it’s on pavement. So confidence inspiring. It really changed my outlook on what I could do on a heavy bike in the deep stuff.

Got rid of the giant pumpkin lights for some Denali T3’s mounted to the hand guards. They are DRLs normally and switch to signals and back to DRLs.

I really like the s1 lights, and run them as driving lights on the slab and is a big improvement with driver attention.

Went to OverlandExpo West last weekend. Took a few training classes with Bill Dragoo from Dragoo Adventure Riding Training. I learned a lot. Like how many times I can pick up my bike in a day. But I was the only one who was stubborn enough to do the training being fully loaded. If I’m going to ride that way, I may as well train that way.

Mosko Moto will be releasing a new colorway for all of their bags very soon. I really love the new look.

Built a big boy seat today. Seat Concepts Sport Touring.
It’s a little taller now which sucks for my short legs but the comfort on my butt says its worth it.

Had the bike weighed on a certified scale calibrated two days ago. She’s a heavy girl.
620 full of fuel and the aux tank and all my camping gear.
The other is with me and all my gear and backpack with water.

That's a great looking bike.  What an engine, to be able to ride with all the added weight.

What is the line running from your handle bars to the sky?

We were expecting a passing light rain during the evening….

Hi @One Man Trail, it looks like you changed rear racks? Can you tell me what you changed to?  Thanks.

I originally had a Tusk pannier mounts and rear rack, but sold it to a friend. I am using the SW Motech pannier racks and rear rack now.

I installed the Yamaha rear solo seat. I’ll be putting a Rotopax mount on it for trips that will be further into the back country. It’s a tight fit between the rails of the SW Motech rear rack, requiring a slight tweak of the sides of the solo cover.

When I installed the turn signals originally, I was in a hurry. I only wired them as signals. Yesterday I re-wired them so they function as turn signals, running lights, and brake lights.

This is very close to the set up I’m after as far as racks are concerned. Can i ask how much taller the SW Motech rack is over the mono seat rack? And did you have to do any cutting to get the mono to fit, or just  a little bending?

The SW Motech rack is almost the same height as the solo rack. No cutting was needed, just a squeeze bend of the sides to fit between the rails of the rack.

I got one wheel at least. Still waiting for the rear. It’s been a nightmare waiting for the Haan hubs from the Netherlands. Sent blues ones at first. If I would have known I’d be waiting 3 months or more I probably would have had Excel wheels laced onto my stock hubs.

Thanks for this.  I’ve been after this “last mod” of sorts for quite awhile now.
