@Tenerider It's a official off-road area owned by a place called Action Planet and costs 24,50 euros for a full day of driving.
The website is in Dutch but I believe everyone can just sign up, they open their tracks every second Sunday of the month.

I love my early mornings...and, I love my bikes.

And...every so often, those two passions and a couple of red-sky-sunrise's conspire to form a sort of weekend-motorcycling- mini-nirvana.

1a.thumb.JPG.d5a894e6b9e315e3a90d634ea4aec69a.JPG

And so it was... this last weekend.

Saturday saw me out of my bed at 04:30 and out on the roads an hour later.

The skies were promising to keep clear of cloud and the roads were dry.

I headed southwards towards Athlone.

Athlone's at geographically, just about the centre point of Ireland and a couple of hours ride from me.

An hour or so's riding along twisty lane-ways had me near Westmeath.

I stopped for a few moments and watched the early morning mist evaporate from a mirroresque lake.

1.thumb.JPG.1e8615a8ae80be70cb4847037c56f96a.JPG

I hardly saw a soul for hours and virtually no traffic.

It was one of those rides where everything clicks into place.

We all have those rides from time to time.

The bike, the road, the weather and our minds combine to make a memorable ride-out.

I passed an entrance to a section of managed forest so doubled back to check if I might indulge in a spot of forest trail riding but the area was restricted.

4.thumb.JPG.cb8d650840d5499a9d7f90adc8bc10a7.JPG

I ventured in a short way in but warnings and barriers very soon blocked my progress.

I know these large conifer forests are purpose grown as a 'resource' but I think it still looks somehow sad to see those acres of trees sliced off to stumps.

My journey was taking me on a meandering route to Brideswell.  It's a village located in the south of County Roscommon, and It lies 11km from the Centre of Athlone.

A monument's been erected there to the memory of Gerry O'Malley, a Gaelic Footballer with an awesome reputation.
Gerry's world famous, well...... he is in Brideswell anyway!

I'd never heard of him before but I gave auld Gerry a bit of a thank-you salute.

He was responsible after all, for my quietly exhilarating motorcycling ride out and a fine summer morning's outing.

6.thumb.JPG.44209c738860cc46c424ad803284e6ce.JPG

I took the required selfie and bimbled homewards on a different route.

7.thumb.jpg.120e0c0753eb4a3abd38307fd00ed9a8.jpg

I passed through Ballymahon on my journey homewards and stopped for a leg stretch near the river.

A big quote from one of Oliver Goldsmiths works ordains a car park wall.

I hadn't heard of him previously either. Ballymahon's his home town it seems.

Amazing how motorcycling broadens one's horizons in more ways than one!

I was home on Saturday at around 10:30.  A happy morning indeed!

It was a thoroughly enjoyable ride across 260 + kms and five hours that seemed more like two.

I thought that might be my lot for the weekend but, once again at 5 am the sun was threatening to split the trees this morning.

Couldn't resist firing up the T7 for a bit shorter blast.

There's a BMW Ulster Rally point around Enniskillen that I could fit in before brekkie so I made that my first stop.

1.thumb.JPG.2ced801ecb3132d45dfcb3a3e6a0063b.JPG

I took my selfie at Tully Mill near Enniskillen.  It's an old water mill that's taken on a new role as restaurant.
It looks quite nice.

Perhaps a bit trendy?

3.thumb.jpg.987d2da3ae09ff42f7f66b984cec619d.jpg

Today was going to be an out-'n-back ride but I'm a sucker for mountains and got lured off the more main roads across to the high ground.

4.thumb.JPG.08ea3a6e94f9566171f3e451aa880263.JPG

With the satnav shut down I meandered the hills and time ran away with me.

Yesterday was, I thought,  the highlight of my biking week but, all of a sudden, I'm presented with a cherry-on-top.

5.thumb.JPG.7f5c72856c8e6c404f1745d31f63e511.JPG

I'll need to investigate just where I got too. I'm not ever so  sure.

In the moment, I was just enthralled.6.thumb.JPG.39814525a19a9da73e7df2e072ca1991.JPG

I bimbled across those high places and immersed myself if lovely, clear long views.

I revelled in the wonderfully quiet solitude of the high moors.

This time last week I'd been riding in a group of eleven and it was a memorable time.

As a motorcycling experience this weekend was almost a polar opposite but, equally memorable.

7.thumb.JPG.4dcd5f5211d08646accd95b28590dbd4.JPG

I was later home than I'd planned but...still  before lunch time.

What a good do!

What a very good do indeed!

I put this post on another forum a couple of weeks ago but thought it might have some relevance on this one as well.
There's riders like myself here that bought their T7 predominately to serve as a road-going tourer with a serious option for the occasional off-road excursion.
And, there's also some purists that might argue that's not what the Tènèrè 700 is really about.

I'd beg to differ on the latter.

I spent 3 days riding a few A roads and a lot of 'lesser' mountain type roads amongst mixed company, road going motorcycles.

I found the T7 to be an extremely competent, hard-top-road touring machine.

Great for all-day comfort and not out of place amongst more exotic company.

I'm still on the OEM Pirelli rubber and they weren't too bad at all on tarmac.

A set of good 20/80's when those are done will probably be an improvement though.

I'm at 5000 kms on my new bike now and more convinced than ever that I made a good choice for my mainly hard-topped touring needs.

The Kawasaki Riders Club Forum's been good for me over the years.

I've made motorcycling friendships and acquaintances from all across the UK that I never, ever would have otherwise.

A little while ago I was invited to join a meet-up and ride out by a couple of ex-members from the Southampton area.

Unfortunately I couldn't find accommodation close to the meet up in Llanidloes, Wales so...it looked like a non-starter for me.

However, two ex-members @NeilR-zx600j1 and @Geordieonabike conspired to find a bed for me and I bagged a bottom bunk in a room with Alex.

Sorted.

Last Thursday morning saw me awake around 03:00 getting ready for an early start to Dublin Ferry Port.

1.thumb.JPG.1f88d440b64f1c92b6432c5447c509b5.JPG

I set off at 05:30 to check in at 7 am for my sailing to Holyhead.

I had a dry ride to the ferry and when I got to Holyhead riding conditions were good.

I was disembarked by noon and ticking off a Challenge Point before 1 pm at Beaumaris Castle.
Never been to Beaumaris previously,  it's a lovely wee Anglesey town...

2.thumb.jpg.30576a3a4e3686999dc29a1a2e33e8ae.jpg

3.thumb.JPG.4aac2e5813b0020b2bbd82442f44a6b1.JPG

4.thumb.jpg.9407916b0d1622329335745f21bdcfd7.jpg

From there I set off southwards towards Welshpool where my youngest daughter lives with her husband and two children.

A meandering route through Snowdonia had me arriving at around half past four.

There was a welcome note on the fridge from my youngest granddaughter.

5.thumb.jpg.06723603cb5029ae65f8487b322408bb.jpg

Meeting up with my youngest grandson after being separated by best part of two years and a pandemic was a bit of a shock.
The coming-sixteen-year-old is 6 ft 2'' now....and I'm not!

6.thumb.jpg.5ac56d4f14393100ff8329c805a8e104.jpg

I stayed overnight with my family in Welshpool and backtracked the next day an hour or so to meet up with an old forum mate @Geordieonabike at the McDonalds in Chirk.

Alex travelled down that morning from Newcastle with three other mates.

7.thumb.jpg.1d2f3414b14ed35d21702ba71cc63400.jpg

It was really good to meet up with Alex again after some years and also to make acquaintance with his other Geordie mates.
Great craic.

8.thumb.jpg.ff5626253689bf8736fbe0904db3fbf0.jpg

After a cuppa and some banter we headed further southwards to our meet up venue in Llanidloes.

Meanwhile, on a different route, the Southern lads were also making their way...

283026359_10158632357546461_6869439651234752133_n.jpg.c381085b6859275a4bbb1ea1016a7e62.jpg

The Newcastle contingent, along with yours truly from Ireland arrived at 'The Mount Inn' just as it began to spit a little rain.
The lads from Southampton way arrived shortly afterwards and were a little damp.

Great to see @NeilR-zx600j1  @forge and @black_zed after five years!

I had a Euro trip planned with those lads back in 2019 but an accident and wrist surgery a week before blast off saw me out of that biking excursion.

Two subsequently planned Ireland trips were also curtailed by the pandemic so it was really good to meet up again last week.

The skies cleared a bit and a round or two of refreshments were partaken in the pubs yard.

412246849_MountInnpintintheyard.thumb.jpg.0acc5115be2fbe79a5affc8f75341314.jpg

Followed by a fine steak dinner or Fish 'n Chips in the pub later in the evening.

78413544_DinneratMountInn.thumb.jpg.91b977a3504a3dd54cb38078173f0b74.jpg

The craic was mighty!

I'm not quite sure who was responsible for determining the route for the following day but it was superb....as was the weather which up until then had looked a bit 'iffy'.

What a memorable 200 mile ride we enjoyed!

We took in the Black Mountain Pass and Devils Staircase running through the Cambrian Mountains, stopping for lunch along the way.

The weekend went too quickly but, there was interest in repeats for the future.

I rode part-way back homewards with the Geordie contingent before branching off for my ferry home to Ireland.

I had a cool, damp ride home for the most part but by then, it just didn't matter.

Really grateful to be invited by my ex-member mates and to make some really fine new acquaintances.

It was my first 1200+ kilometre ride on my new 700 Yamaha and I was well pleased.

What a good do!

A friend noted my penchant for riding the hills and recommended an old Irish Photo Rally Point from a few years back.

So, I took a spin out this morning and did just that!

I know the area 'round Drumshanbo quite well but I've never been up in the hills around there.

1880405016_Lietrim(7).thumb.JPG.e3a5e427a7ed7066131518fbebdaf309.JPG

It was an entertaining entertaining mornings ride...

Never heard of these folk....

So I did a little research.

https://www.irishtimes.com/culture/heritage/archaeologist-finds-200-year-old-galway-refugee-camp-1.3190982

I'd guess they had a hard timer of it.  It's a tad desolate up and around there.

1144578254_Lietrim(12).thumb.JPG.3a99f2615e42e5e4b78a9a01732f20ae.JPG

Lovely riding across those low mountains.
Large stretches needed some concentrating though.
The single track roads are really narrow and there's deep ditches on each side for a lot of it.
In the dark or fog it'd be easy to come to grief.

274507987_Lietrim(15).thumb.JPG.04703748c21d2827942103d14ed7d7e4.JPG

I did a bout 220 km round trip and the roads to get there and come from were brilliant.

TET south NL on my way to the TET Belgium, tree fell on the trail but i could just pass.

TET Belgium is killed by rules and contains almost no offroad anymore.

Now something to eat and then beck to the campsite just out of town.

Rural area in Lower Saxonia - still official gravel roads around here, though not many.

There was even a nice deep puddle, so my T7 finally got her baptise.

@Ray Ride4life bad news regarding TET Belgium. Let's hope that at least NL stays sensible.

Packing up this morning afternoon after very heavy rain all night and day.
Tried to wait it out planning some alternative but decided to pack up in a short moment with only light rain and head home.
