I see you were on a KLR at the time of the photo.  I was out with a friend yesterday who rides a KLR with 130,000 + Km's on it.  And he knows how to ride it.

Saturday was a great day to hit a small trail the local riding club has around one of my rented farms. Also my anhydrous toolbar wasn't working, so I went for a ride while the co-op worked on it.

Superb pics!

Makes me want to be there.

What tyres are those?

I fitted a set of Avon Trail Riders to  KLR 650 a while back. They were supposed to be  90/10 Road/Off road bias but they were actually quite capable with some rougher stuff but, for me, the difference they made to my more usual tar road riding was brilliant.

They look very similar to yours

They are conti trail attack 2. I was really pleased with them. For handling forest roads along with an entire day of interstate riding they were great. Got them on sale last year

I'd intended to travel westwards yesterday to tick off a couple of Irish Photo Rally points but swapped that option for a ride Northwards instead.

There's a Rally point in Northern Ireland near to Coleraine, the Ballydevitt Cottage.
I haven't found much info on this wee homestead.
Probably the smallest house I've ever entered.

1.thumb.JPG.ee35233f8769facb51926ed95ad0606b.JPG

The door has a lock on it but a bit of a push saw it opening.

2.thumb.JPG.4a6cb04105c65f6082255a6904c0e42d.JPG

The inside space is divided into just two small rooms.

Cant imagine living in such a small pozzie!

Anyway.

I suddenly realised that in planning an Irish Photo Rally jaunt, I'd forgotten about the Kawasaki Riders Club Challenge.

A quick Google gave me the location of a Challenge point and it was just a quick 22 kms off my planned route.

So, a bit of a diversion took place.

The Mussenden Temple is on a National Trust site and I couldn't gain access with my bike on this morning.

Got a selfie at the gates though.3.thumb.JPG.0bf4bf5734d220bb257b7af186ee3fc6.JPG

4.thumb.jpg.082701db81bedcbdb930ec28d33fd0e4.jpg

Then, 'The Challenge' occupying my thoughts for a while and, being ever-so-close to Coleraine, I remembered a very welcoming Kawasaki dealership in town...

5.thumb.jpg.8388de50a950bd3c9df60bdca245e306.jpg

I parked the shiny Ténéré 700 right outside the window, cheekily in front of a gleaming new Z650rs
By the time I got back across the road to my bike an amiable Motoplus assistant popped around the doorway and asked if I needed any help.

When I took my helmet off, Ollie, the assistant, recognised me so, there followed an invite in for coffee and a chat.

I'd last spoken to Ollie in December when I was seriously considering buying a new 2022 KLR 650.

He'd been very helpful at that time but it turned out to be just too difficult and impractical to get hold of one for me.

It was nice to see the folks at Motoplus again though and, I can see the attraction for the z650rs.

I had a bit of a pull across country then to my last Rally point of the day.

Time wasn't on my side today so I'd taken more major roads up through Northern Ireland.
I've always found NI to be quite a bit busier, traffic-wise, than Ireland and on a weekday there can be a bit of congestion in and around the towns.

It was nice then, to get away past Londonderry/Derry then Letterkenny and away through lovely countryside towards Downings.
Especially pleasurable as it's a place I've never visited before.

The road to there's a very pretty ride.

Very much more to my liking.

As per my habit, I like to research a little, the areas that I've visited.
I'd like to return here one day on a more 'coastal' riding day.

8.thumb.JPG.c13088e5198032dccec5c12dfaba2179.JPG

It was a delightful ride through the Lough Salt area and through the village of Glen to reach Downings.
What a stunning beach at that wee coastal settlement!

Unfortunately, my picture doesn't do justice.

The sun on the sea and white sand didn't work too well.

Just around the corner from this point was my last call of the day...

The 'Laurentic Gun'

13.thumb.JPG.36868cd4a7fcdffd105a8155d54148d2.JPG

Aren't these photo rallies great wee ways to discover stuff?

12.thumb.JPG.2c97a23181c1c2ac7d9b4c9940c26322.JPG

With my Rally selfie done...

I started my trek home.

A nice day out. Dry but pretty cold.

Should've kept the liner in my jacket and worn my textiles with the liners in as well instead of riding jeans.

But, despite the chill...What a good do!thumbsup

Super ride report and photos...fab place to ride and! Cheers,  Steve

Yes Al.

It was a 2008 model.  Bought it from a lad in Bath, UK.
It'd been imported from Vermont and had all the original US paperwork including details of its 1st owner from new.

I bought it in 2012 and sold it in 2019 to buy my xt660z.

Before I bought my new T7 I tried to get the new KLR incarnation imported but it proved very difficult and, it worked out to just about the same price (with import duties and the dreaded Irish Vehicle Registration Tax) as the T7.

So, there was no contest really.
The Ténéré is in a slightly different league in my opinion.
That being said, if I could've gotten one for the price you lads would pay your side...I might well have been tempted.

I bought my KLR simply to keep dirty winter miles off my 'main' bike but, ended up riding it most of the time.

Nowhere near the new T7 in overall performance but trustworthy and very robust!

Went for an ice-cream with a friend to commemorate a mutual friend who died in a motorcycle accident when we're together on a weekend trip, he loved ice-cream so we do that every year since.
I took a nice tour (about 170km) to where we would come together and past by a WW I monument on the Dutch/Belgian border.
It's a dead wire, a part original piece of electrified fence.

And this is why Dutch cheese is so good, we let our cows relax at the riverside.

Friday was a little bit chilly but really bright, fine 'n dry.

Forecast isn't brilliant for the next few days so thought I might get a couple of dry hours in while it's still fine.

Headed northwards for the second time this week.

It's a Holiday weekend and the towns and villages seemed busy.  Gearing up for the holiday I guess.

So, I meandered northwards on the lesser roads avoiding the throng.

I found myself close to Beaghmore just before my turn-back-home point so stopped to stretch my legs around those old rock arrangements.

I've a tendency to do some minor research into the places I visit and I got this from Wikipedia:

Beaghmore is a complex of early Bronze Age megalithic features, stone circles and cairns, 8.5 miles north west of Cookstown, County Tyrone in Northern Ireland, on the south-east edge of the Sperrin Mountains.[1]

The site was discovered by George Barnett[5][6] in the late 1930s during peat cutting when 1,269 stones were uncovered,[2] and partially excavated in 1945–1949 when it was taken into state care. It was also excavated again in 1965. Hearths and deposits of flint tools were discovered and have been carbon dated to 2900-2600BC. Several of the stone rows run over the tumbled walls of field structures which also date from the Neolithic period. Excavation of one of the cairns revealed a polished porcellanite axe, which may have originated from the Tievebulliagh axe factory, some 70 miles away in County Antrim. The largest cairn featured a central pit containing an oak branch.[2]

Anyway, whether or not the history's of interest to the average biker,  the ride around the Sperrin Mountain area is quite lovely.

Don't ride fast on a unfamiliar road, especially when your tyres are worn out (was too late with ordering the new ones).

That hay was too soft and too high for my heavy T7, but I was going to cross the river by an old railway bridge that day. 😬Finally I did not dare, it was destroyed too much.

Put the off road wheels in last night (15 mins tops swap) and had a great run out today.

The Rally Raid suspension front and rear is absolutely awesome. Feels nearly as taut as my KTM525EXC. I love this bike. The most amazingly well balanced bike when standing up I have to say.
