Just get the locking fuel cap from acerbis. It’s vented as normal bikes so no more hose

Thanks good tip

OK, I am nearly at the end of my tether with the Acerbis tank. After my stupid issue with the internal o-ring I now have a leaking fuel pump gasket. I initially used the original gasket and after rectifying the above mentioned issue I filled the tank up ready for a ride. I returned to the shed a couple of days later to find a puddle of evaporating fuel on the floor.

Bugger! off come the shrouds and jewellery and when I tilted the tank backwards there was a tell-tall leak from under the metal clamp ring. Syphon remaining fuel and remove tank; simple.

I removed the fuel pump and had a very careful look at the gasket and pump base. All looked good even using a magnifying glass.

OK, lets break out some fuel resistant sealant. I first tried Hylomar, left a couple of days to go off, add fuel, hey presto, a leak.

Next was 3 Bond 1104 followed by Permatex form a gasket #1 then onto Permatex Anaerobic. Results were the same.

OK, let's try a new gasket........same result.

Let's check the sealing face. Not particularly flat. I have done a lot of valve lapping on high pressure steam valves over the years so I machined a lapping plug to sand the plastic seat flat. I used #400 followed by #600 and finally #1200. Looks professional.

Replace the pump with new gasket......you guessed it.

I then sat with a bright torch on the back of the fuel pump base looking for a crack. Nothing.

I contacted the supplier and I now have the tank wrapped up ready to return for possible replacement. I sat staring at the leak and have concluded it is coming from under the aluminium ring which would indicate and internal flaw. To prove my theory I will flush the original tank and fit the fuel pump and if there is no leaks then it must be the tank.

Watch this space.

Hope it’s all cleared up soon and it’s a one off. Maybe it was damaged in transit from Italy.
Mine still in its box 🙈. Got it last year. 😂. I’ll get round to it.

On careful inspection I have concluded the tank is leaking from internally to the aluminium ring. I observed fuel leaking between the plastic and the outer edge of the ring.

I contacted the supplier on Tuesday afternoon at 16:45. The rep said he would have the manager call me on Wednesday morning to discuss.

9:45 I had a call from the manager to let me know a new tank was in the mail and a return post voucher was emailed.

A huge shout out to the supplier for an extremely prompt and more than satisfactory outcome.

Australia Post tracking shows I might get the tank tomorrow; if not it will be early next week.

The supplier was MX1 Australia

I received my Acerbis tank this week. Today I filled the tank and took the bike for a ride to check it out. I didn't notice the xtra wieght at all while riding on the street. On the dirt it was a little noticeable but not bad. For reference I had the big Safari tank on a DRZ and when that was full the bike was a handful until I used a gallon or so so the xtra two gallons in the Acerbis isn't bad at all.  Physically the tank isn't that noticeable either.....I went 115 miles before I used the first bar on the fuel gauge. The second bar went 10 miles later.  Overall Im very happy with the tank.....

Has anyone installed the Acerbis tank with the fork tubes higher in the triple clamp? I lowered my bike with 20mm links in the rear and the fork tubes are currently 28mm to the top of the threads. The fork cap just barely slides under the trim at full lock currently.

My fork tubes are also raised a bit in the triple clamps due to 18mm lowering links on my bike. Fork caps are close to the Acerbis, but no contact on my bike.

Raising the fork tubes in the clamps won't affect your Barkbusters. The only way for them to hit the tank is if your bars are rolled back a bit to far.

Yea! the end of my tank saga.

I fitted the fuel pump without any sealant and no leaks 😃

Thanks again to MX1 Australia. They will get business from me in future. I think they are an importer or partner with Acerbis.

I can only assume there was an internal flaw allowing fuel to seep from around the aluminium pump mount ring.

After looking domestically for the Acerbis 23 liter tank, I ordered mine from MotoSport in Italy.  It cost $100 less, including the shipping, than any US supplier.  And it arrived in less than a week.

The installation took less than 2 hours.  There were no leaks and the side panels bolted back up with no issues.  Simple, simple, simple.

I ride hard off road; this bike is no show queen and everything is still tight.

With the extra fuel now onboard, I should safely have well over 300 mile range.  1st tank: 225 miles of mixed, hard off-road and back roads and I refilled with 4.1 gallons.  2nd tank: 235 miles at 35-55mph average of back and main roads and I refilled with 4.2 gallons.  So even with mixed, hard off-road riding, I'm still getting nearly 55 mpg.

EDIT: a note about the fuel gauge: it reads full until the tank is about 5/8 empty then it starts to come down.  We knew this was going to happen as the tank's depth is different than the stock tank.  It still works fine but just at a different rate.  Watch your mileage!

My tank came from Italy also. I’ve bought a few things from Motorsport and I’m always amazed how quickly things arrive!

I ordered a tank from

. I was looking for a white/translucent tank and they seemed to be the only supplier with one. I wasn't in a rush to receive it, but they certainly didn't ship it as described. The website said "In stock, ships in one day"

I got an order conformation in a couple days. Then after almost a week, I got an email asking if I wanted to update my shipping to a quicker service for almost a third of what the tank cost!

Good thing I wasn't waiting on it for an important trip or anything.

It arrived after three weeks from ordering the other day while i was off riding the MABDR.  Hopefully I will get around to installing it next week.

It did my head in for a couple of weeks. I even thought there might have been a leak in the fuel pump body. I now have a brand new fuel pump in stock 😃

The Australian supplier ( MX1 ) was extremely helpful as I have mentioned previously.

I have just completed the 2022 BSB ( see posts in the Australian threads ) and the Acerbis tank was spot on. I did the Wauchope to Scone leg - 365km - which was a combination of dirt roads, forest roads, and a bit of tar. The bike used 17 litres of fuel so I still had about 5 litres in reserve. That would equate to around 100km.

Well...as much as I want to like this tank, it doesn't seem to fit well for me.  Side panels don't align well, etc.    One thing I notice that doesn't seem right is the front of the tank could slide further up into the pucks...but once the back of the tank is bolted-up it pulls it back just a little.  Maybe this is why the rest of the panels don't align very well.  I made it work, but I'm not pleased.  I'm going back to the stock tank if I cannot figure this out.  😞  Seems easy enough.

Yea mine didn't fit on front pucks either. I also queried it. Everyone else seemed ok with it.  Decided to grease up pucks and use it thinking engine heat and weight of full tank would mold it on better.  Not actually checked if it has.  Body panels are I bit tricky to align.

My body panels went on OK.  didn't push the tank all the way on the pucks. I found an optimum position where the tank, seat, side panels, and steering dampener fitted.

Fit everything loose before tightening.

Had Acerbis tanks on other bikes before their fit has always been a bit hit or miss so i went with the Camel ADV tank straight forward to fit without disturbing the rest of the bike.

But if you are happy with it crack on!

Hi guys, about to pull pin  on a tank and definitely want the locking cap.  I see their are two sizes?  I presume it is the large one but ordering from over the water so don't want to get the wrong one.  Hopefully someone can help me out please.

Got my one on today.  Fairly easy job except for getting the plastics back on.  Like the look.  Now I have to fill the thing up - about $2.60/l for the good stuff here at the moment.  Oh, and I need to sort out a new tankbag...

Pretty much all the tanks we received from Acerbis have lots of plastic debris inside. Check before installation.

We clean each tank with compressed air and vacuum before shipping.

Good reminder. 👍Acerbis do state they should also be washed out and dried prior to fitting.

Yep but not sure washing would help because of the shape of the tank. We can good results using compressed air from one end and vacuum on the other end.

Still not fitted mine. It’s “maturing” in a shed. 😉
