Clutch Cable to short

CarlR83

Question

I have just replaced my standard clutch lever with a short lever but due to the routing of the cable on the new lever the cable is to short, has anyone else experienced this?

Welcome to the forum.  If you provide more details it would help others help you. Such as, is the bike a new or used purchase?   (Previous owner may have moved the controls.) Pictures of the cable routing would also help determine if it's not stock also one showing the new lever mounting position.

normally you dont need longer cable's for clutches. unless there are more modifications that come in to play.

Thank you @AZJW

The bike was bought new it’s a 2023 so no adjustments have been done I was just curious if anyone else had encountered the same issue.

Clutch cable play can be adjusted on the clutch lever and where the clutch cable is connected to the clutch arm:

Maybe you can gain some more cable free play there?

I recently went through the same thing, I had to adjust the free play on the engine side to make things work properly. I don't know if its too short but I have almost zero room to adjust the freeplay after this change on the engine side

@CoreCass is correct. Unless adding tall risers or bars, the oem cables have normally been long enough. Not to push a great product,  but the 1 finger clutch arm by @Camel ADV works great and reduces the clutch pull, plus it's adjustable to suit your taste. I have one and coupled with my shorty clutch lever, it's got a smooth easy pull.

I was looking to get the @Camel ADVclutch arm so maybe I’ll get that and it will solve my problem 🤞🏼

It'll rather increase the problem of the cable being too short!

You need to use the adjuster on the engine block to gain some slack.

I’ve adjusted that as much as possible I’m waiting for a reply from where I bought the levers to make sure they’ve given me the correct levers for the year of my bike
