AGM batteries are in general a good solution, BUT... you're in the lucky situation that you HAVE to replace the battery. So, you could justify paying a hundred bucks or so for a super lightweight LiFePo battery and save something like 2kg weight up high... keep in mind you'd need a charger which is suitable for Lithium-based batteries.

I'm desperately waiting for my OEM battery to die just for this reason 😁

Honestly I don’t need to save the weight - my usage is road only

My Shorai batteries have set for over a year without loosing charge. I've never used my charger.

Bizzarly  It’s gone from reading err1 4.5v to 13.4 to 13.5v

wondering if the charger has conditioned it?

I recently switched to a lithium Antigravity ReStart battery.  Having what is essentially a jump pack built in is comforting.

@Lewie I doubt it would be fried after only two years now. Modern batteries are much better. So it probably has recovered. If you have no power to your garage for an optimate, try a solar kit (for ease) for camper vans. You’ll need a large battery to go with the kit.
motobatt are great batteries for when you do eventually change. Make sure the charger is agm compatible or you’ll kill it. Also do some extra homework on the replacement model. The recommended one by the motobatt site isn’t always 100%. Physical size, capacity and very importantly CCA must all match at least. The old 1vj has 12 and 14 AH replacements so it’s probably around 14/15 needed (without researching it). The 10 AH shown looks a little small for a bike with heated grips and accessory sockets. The t7 probably doesn’t need a massive amount of CCA but I always like the comfort blanket of a strong battery.
oh if you actually want to know for definite, once the old battery has charged, get a cheap ish digital discharge tester on it. It’ll tell you how many cold cranking amps it still has too. 👍

Are ya'll removing the oem battery tray to fit the larger 5.9" wide batteries recommended here? Or is this a 2024 thing only?

Seeing the smaller tray for the first time. The smaller battery was introduced with the color TFT dash models. The high capacity of the previous models seems not to be necessary. I've just installed a 24 Wh battery on my '21 bike, the dealer told me that this is their best selling model and nobody has reported yet that the capacity is insufficient.

Im using a noco lithium from amazon. I have it for 2 years or so.

FYI for those on a 2024, just cut out the tray and a 5.9 fits perfectly.
