Problem with ABS/Speed Sensor with GYTR Kit

I did the  GYTR kit conversion with the single disc conversion and ABS removal to go along with it.  I installed other parts from the GYTR kit as well  These include -

GYTR Air Filter Kit
GYTR Chain and Sprocket Kit (15/48)
GYTR Front Brake kit (300mm disc) with brembo master cylinder
GYTR Front High Fender Kit
GYTR Haan Front Wheel with high strength Excel rim 1.85x21
GYTR Haan Rear Wheel with high strength Excel rim 2.50x18
GYTR KYB Front Forks 48mm, 270mm stoke
Tractive Suspension Shock X-TREME PRO +25mm Long Travel with remote adjuster
GYTR Rear Brake kit (270mm)
GYTR Triple Crown Handle Assy (for 48mm forks)
In addition I have a bunch of other upgrades like full exhaust, Scotts Steering damper, carbon skid plate, ABS removal plug, ECU flash etc.

During this process I forgot to install the speed sensor on the front wheel. I ordered this sensor from OTR - https://www.off-the-road.de/de/neues/141551/abs-sensor-ring-tachokorrektur-yamaha-tenere-700 and I installed it. However the speed is off by 20-30 miles on my dashboard. If I go at 60 mph, then on the dash its showing as 100 mph. I used a garmin GPS to compare this. Is there any setting on the dash to adjust the wheel circumference. The front wheel from GYTR is the same size as the OEM wheel which is 1.85x21. So I am not sure why the speedo is so off. Below is the pic of the sensor that I ordered and installed and its made by OTR , the same place from where I bought my GYTR kit.

Its just not me who has this issue. Another guy who did the same modification has the same issue and he posted it on advrider.com.  I posted about this on several FB forums but so far no one knows the solution.

I contacted the company that sells this kit and told them about this issue.  They said they can do nothing about it as this kit is meant for their rally bikes and on their rally bikes they dont use the OEM dash and switch to an ICO.  I asked them to contact Yamaha and they said Yamaha will not do anything about it.

The shown ABS ring is mainly meant for speed correction on pre-23 models (oldschool dash). Speed is off by approx 10% on these (readings are too high). That's why this shown ABS ring has a different spacing than the OEM ring, dunno if it works with newer models (TFT dash) as intended.

It might also be that something got damaged during your modifications process - ABS sensor mainly, I'd guess.

Have you some how put the dash in Km mode and not Mile mode?

Yes I verified that.

I have the old dash.  I was almost ready to change the ABS sensor wire, but then another guy reported the same exact problem.  What are the chances that 2 guys with the exact mods have damaged their ABS sensor wire ?

Maybe try the old abs ring and see if there is a difference.

also quite the coincidence that it’s doing 69 mile when the speedo is showing 100, very close to the Ml to Km difference. Will be interesting to here what is causing the issue.

Interesting. On my 24 the speedo reads exactly 10% too slow compared to gps speed, this with the factory abs ring and wheel/tires

Did you replace both rings?

Don't quote me but I think there is one slot extra on the correction ring.

If you are using the original on the rear it my be playing with the ecu.

Edit. The web site shows "one piece".

You will need to buy another.

Interesting indeed! Definitely the opposite on my '21 (and all older models afaik), if it says 100 km/h it's actually only 90-91 or so.

I didnt.  I dont have any ring on the rear wheel.  I removed the ABS unit and the wiring. So I dont have the sensor on the rear. Only on the front .

I wonder if the speedo requires 2 sensors?

Just a thought.

I'd say it does not require the rear ABS/speedo ring since, as an example, the FuelDongle ABS Switch essentially cuts the connection from the rear ABS Sensor with triggers a Fault in the ABS System which in turn renders the ABS inoperational. What could be happening is that the sensor could be positioned slightly off from the OEM position. That's the only thing that I can think of.

Tractive Suspension Shock X-TREME PRO +25mm Long Travel with remote adjuster

On another matter, was this Tractive X-TREME PRO +25 mm a special order? I could not find it in OTR.de's list. I wanted this model, but I also travel with bags now and then. Would be very useful!

Yes I took it to a Yamaha dealer and he said the same thing. Connect the rear wheel sensor also. So I waiting on the sensor cable as I threw away my old one.

The extreme pro shock is available on OTR -

Tractive Suspenion Federbein X-TREME PRO PDS II +25 mm Federweg Yamaha Tenere 700, orange   Neu entwickeltes Tractive Suspension Federbein…

You can also get it with a remote adjuster.

Well, when it does arrive let us know! I haven't done it yet, but I'll try to disconnect my rear wheel sensor (my T7 has the stock setup but I have the OTR.de rings like you do and at least there I can tell that they work very well indeed! It's accurate within 1 or 2 km/h depending on the tire being new or worn)

Although I'm yet to test a 90/100 21 front... I would have to do the math, but there's a chance the higher aspect ratio could change the reading, but not by the amount you described...

Thanks! I have the GYTR forks, the OTR Triple Clamps, and the X-TREME PRO +25 on my wishlist!

Then you did end up requesting to OTR the PDA on the side to be added to the shock?

If you have to say, how much better is the GYTR 48 mmm forks + the X-TREME PRO +25 vs the OEM Setup?

Thanks for the help.  I appreciate it. I am still waiting for the sensor to arrive but at this point I am convinced that it will fix the issue with the speedo.

The GYTR forks, the OTR Triple Clamps, and the X-TREME PRO +25  transform the bike to another level where now I can ride the same hard trails that I usually ride on my KTM 500.  The forks are super plush better than my WP cone valve forks.  The shock is really good but you need to get the sag right depending on how much weight u shed off the bike. In my case I shed 45 lbs overall and thats a lot.

But to be honest to complete the package, get the off-road wheels and that will make a huge difference in handling.  1.85 on the front and 2.5 on the rear.  I have 90/100 front & a 140/80 rear and it stays planted.

everywhere.

Regarding the  X-TREME PRO +25 mm shock with remote adjuster, I didnt specifically request it, but. OTR sent me one anyways for the same price. I dont know if its a mistake or intentional but I couldnt be happier.

Update -

I installed the rear sensor and still having the same issue with the speedo. I took it to a Yamaha dealer, and he plugged in the diagnostic tool and said initially that my speedo is off becoz I dont have the rear sensor.

When I installed the rear sensor I told him, I am still facing the same issue. Today after a week, he called me and said, its becoz I am using a aftermarket ABS ring and not the OEM ring.  He said the OEM ring has a red dot and that has to align with the sensor.  I dont have the OEM ring. So I dont know if this is true or not. When I told him there are so many others who are using the same after market ring from OTR,  he then said, it could be becoz I changed the ECU map and disabled the ABS on it.  So at the moment I have no idea what to do.

The Yamaha tech he even called Yamaha official tech support but they are not sure either as to why the speedo is off.

It’s a very interesting issue you have. Looking forward to seeing what’s causing it or what the fix is.
