O2 Sensor

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

Seems the previous owner put a bung in the cat(I'm assuming it's the stock header) where the O2 sensor would have been.  I know he had an Akro can on it at one point but it's got the stock can at the moment.  My question is: should I be trying to remove the bung(it looks pretty rusted in there) and put the sensor back?

Thanks!

It depends. Do you know if the bike has been mapped?

Some remaps require the sensor disconnected to perform at its best.

At the very least, take the bung out and use some anti-seize on it. The next guy will thank you.

Not absolutely 100% sure but pretty confident that it hasn't been mapped.  Any compelling reason to try to get the bung out and reconnect the sensor?

If it hasn't been remapped or otherwise messed with, it should throw a light with no O2 sensor I believe.

If it's running fine, keep it that way. I agree with @406T7, there should be an engine light active when this sensor is missing. If this isn't the case, it might well be yours is remapped already.

Would it throw a light if it was still connected?

Not sure myself, mine was disconnected after remap but sensor left in the pipe.

Might be worth checking you actually have a sensor still connected.

I have a remapped ECU and dominator decat downpipes.  The O2 sensor is unplugged at the exhaust but still present on the wiring loom. There was only one fault code produced and that was when the ECU was reinstalled.  This was easily cleared with a cheap ODBC reader.  The disconnected  O2 sensor does not give me any fault codes after three years of use.

Thanks! I'll see if I can find out if it's been mapped(bit of a language barrier with original owner) but yeah it's running fine.  Was wondering though if he mapped it for his Akro and now it's back to stock would it adversely affect performance?  It's running fine but I have no frame of reference as it's the only T7 I've driven.

I'll do some more poking around-thanks!

Thanks!  I am looking for a high mount exhaust solution and was thinking about the dominator.
