Scratched rims inside

Recommended Posts

Did a tough tyre change today and ended up putting my tyre levers a bit deeper that i should have.
on further inspection, i ended up with some scratches inside the rim, where the tube sits down.
i gave the area a good clean and sanded down the sharp edges to smooth.
is that what we’re supposed to do? I ran a micro fibre cloth and my hand and nothing caught on the surface.

If it’s just scratches and not a bur, I can’t see it being an issue.
I just changed my tires yesterday and was worried about the same thing. Until I realized that the slight pocking or corrosion that has formed inside the rim over 3 years is much more abrasive than any scratch I could make.
so ya, knocked down what I could, but I scratches in the paint shouldn’t hurt. Heavy duty tubes are always a good idea.

Yeah, they were burrs from tyre levers but i smoothened them all down with sand paper.
