Firstly i would like to say hi to all you lucky Tenere owners and thanks to the forum organisers.

I have just bought my first Tenere and been wanting one since before their initial release and so very happy to now own one.

Now i am after a little help please if anyone can .  I am looking for the mounting instructions for the World Raid  oem front crash bars. I have bought some second hand and they dont have them with them. I think its a little poor that Yamaha dont have a pdf on there web shop where i can download as paper gets lost and not very eco friendly nowadays to print.

My new , second hand bars also do not have the lower bracket that is visible on the pics in web shop  and i see many people7 workshops seem not to bother fitting these brackets as i can see empty bolt holes where they would fit. I suppose its because of the extra work that fitting these would involve as need to remove some plastics i believe. So yes i am intersted in your thoughts on not fitting these brackets and mostly has anyone a copy or photo of the instructions please so i can see how Yamaha say they should be mounted.

Many Thanks

Hey Dude ... I just saw this and had the same crash bars installed at the dealer, I was in the workshop and ended up helping the mechanic a little it as this was the first time they had fit the OEM crash bars to the T7 WR, so have an idea how they go on and they were quite tight to fit, some leveraging was required to get bolts lined up etc ... not sure I can help in any way, but if you or anyone needs any pics or info on them then reply here or ping me a PM (caveat, I don't come here very often and this is my first post, so apologies if it takes some time to respond).

Quick review of these OEM bars for anyone curious about them:

Personally I think they are perfect.  Slimmer, lighter and very in-keeping with the bike's lines than many aftermarket bars.  My T7 WR originally came with the Crosspro crash bars, which I felt were heavier when riding and were intrusive since they bolt round the back of tanks (on the rider side) and I kept banging my knees on them even on the test ride I knew I wanted to change them for something else.

I am sure they are not stronger than some of the aftermarket crash bars, and most likely do not offer the total "tank" style protection of others, but I would say that the cross braces on these both at the top and bottom will add decent strength, plus there is the additional support from the inbuilt crash bar in the World Raid's frame ... without ever wanting to test them, I think the combo will do a decent job of keeping the main part of the bike protected ... and in any case, rocks and pointy things will always find their way through if you are riding off road, so perhaps a bit of a mute point and a lot of luck needed with any off road spills.

FWIW: I live in the Western Algarve, have put about 6500-7000km on the T7 over the past 4-5 months, have done couple of decent road based tours round Portugal and into Spain recently, with maybe 20% of the riding so far being off-road on what I would say are fairly steady dusty and sandy trails.

I actually started testing out a bit of bashing videos of my trips on youtube recently, with a bunch more to come with better quality soon from the above Portugal and Spanish tours and hoping to do more in future ... link below if you are interested:

Hi.

Thanks for the reply. Only just noticed you wrote it. Interesting to read your opinions. I  agree totally with you on the fact that original look sleek with keeping the lines of the bike shape and not obtrusive.  I bought some second hand and have them fitted currently apart from the seller did not supply me the 2 brackets that fit near lower mounting point and require removal of the plastics to mount. Looking at many pics of motos with them fitted ,it seems alot don't bother fitting these brackets.  I think maybe they are more a safety feature to stop the mounts falling down on front wheel or mudguard should you loose the bolts from the centre top mount under head light.

Do you remember fitting these brackets on yours?

Funny enough I am considering buying some  Crosspro aluminium as they looked like the next nicest fit with the  plastics etc  and run parallel with the Yamaha built in bar. Unlike others.   So i like the idea of the extra strength but also worry about leg contact when seated...

I think people will say that the cross pro ones being aluminium won’t be strong enough

I have a set fitted to my ‘22 T7

purely for cosmetic looks - I’ve actually just removed them and plan to spray them satin black as I’ve changed the colour of my bike

I’m pretty sure the make the same bars for AS

Oops ... might have slept a bit since posting this ... actually I did my ankle in really badly and didn't manage to ride for nearly 2 months 😢

The lower brackets I think must have been installed as the dealer who did this for me does things right, I was there too and more importantly ... there were no parts left in the box   ... I have a vague recollection of both the pseudo carbon camo radiator shroud plastics and the WR specific lower plastic pieces being removed for a bracket to be installed ... but this was probably 8 months ago so I could be wrong.

I also noticed recently that on the 2024 configurator, there is now a crash bung which fits in the bottom mount bolt ... I guess to help stop the little plastic side pieces taking any hits?

I actually also might have tested these slightly and dropped my WR recently and the bars did their job ... was whilst getting on and due to the aforementioned bad ankle 🙄... so ankle was not healed, weak and I was stopped on the dirt, hopped on bike, pushed bike off side stand and right ankle gave way momentarily on uneven ground meaning I couldn't catch it, and the bike went right over the top ... too heavy to catch with knackered ankle, so ended up laying /dropping the bike on its right side :classic_sad:

If anyone is really interested to know what happened, here is a quick rundown of what I saw when I checked it over after - most importantly, no (real) damage was done to the bike nor crash bars, a few super slight scuff marks on crash bars that you would not notice unless I told you they were there (you'd get more damage from catching them on a wall or similar when parking up), and they did not bend or dent in any way - so thick enough to withstand the straight side drop they had (fuel tank was about 60% full).

The soft as cheese rear brake pedal bent in slightly - which was quickly rectified by bending it back out again by hand right there and then.

Underside of right footpeg took a few minor scratches, and the WR specific lower plastic piece got a bit of dirt on it but didn't scratch (ground was uneven and partially why I lost my footing, so it might have glanced a protruding bit of ground?).

Think the exhaust touched the deck, but again was only a bit of dust and pretty sure the footpeg saved it from any damage.

This is where the "lower crash bungs" I mentioned further up might also come in to play by reducing impact and chances of the footpeg, brake and plastic pieces contacting the ground - dunno, but seriously considering adding them, as I am sure they will be cheaper than the plastics alone.

This is realistically the kind of thing I got the crash bars for, and happy they did their job with no damage done ... esp as I know so many ppl who have dropped their bikes at petrol stations or car parks (easily done!).  So these Yamaha bars would seem more than strong enough for this and probably do a lot to help protect with offs at slower speeds in dirt, keep radiator intact and reduce damage to fuel tanks ...

As I said in my earlier post, crashing for real, esp in the dirt will depend on the ground and rocks and your luck that day ... after riding enduros for many years I know you can be very lucky or unlucky when you drop your bike, esp where rocks are concerned, they like to find their way between any protection you might have on the bike.

RE: cross pro ... no clue about their strength, and its all horses for courses about looks and such ... however for my liking the crosspro were way too intrusive in the knee area, and I could not be happier I switched them out for the Yam ones.

Apologies if this is a bit long winded ... just figured someone might be interested to know that they work and what actually happens when you drop your bike stupidly in this way ... and without them having to test it themselves 😉

@DustyBloke Sounds like your right side drop was minor, but you might want to double check your oem muffler to swingarm clearance.  Some have had the exhaust hanger bend allowing contact that can and will eventually wear a hole in the swingarm.

@DustyBlokeHey. No worries for the long read. I like to be thorough also and am interested in what you said.

Sorry to hear about the ankle. I actually have a long term wake board injury on my right hip/groin joint area and  have found it's easy on the rough ground to strain that a little with the weight of the t7 if you misjudge the ground when stopped or slow foot down maneuvers etc.

Yeah., so I actually got a refund on my Yam oe crash bars from Wallapop as the seller couldn't supply the lower mounting brackets . Then I bought a second set and have them fitted properly now. Luckily I paid with PayPal and they forced a refund because of my claim.  Wallapop only give you 48 hrs to make a claim.

Glad to hear the oe bars lived up to expectations and yes i have seen the crash bobbins on the w.rally and thought a good idea.  I think they are arround 80€ .

Also i read on another forum another rider saying ftom experience that lower protection is much more important and effective than up top where the handle bars normally give protection.  So yes i think I will get a pair of these as well.

hey @AZJW yeah ... thanks for the heads up ... read previously of this and was perhaps the first thing I checked ... all good though - no bends or chance of catching on swingarm😉

Cool ... glad you got them sorted Harvey - forgot to mention ... I do have barkbusters which ofc took the hit up top ... although tbh, if I were buying handguards again I would get acerbis ... the acerbis rally guards I ran and abused the hell out on my enduro motos for many years just felt way more robust (esp in terms of the plastic part).

And yeah ... the ankle is still very weak, folded it over badly playing padel tenis in July and still nowhere near right ... so crash bobbins might be very much worth investing in cos this might well happen again 😉

One more related question ... does anyone have experience which after market engine guards for the WR fit with these original Yamaha crash bars?  I'm considering the Yam ones, but interested in what other options work.

Hey guys,

Just picked up a used WR that had the OEM crash bars fitted. I'm going to remove and sell them, but I have a question. When removing that upper fender thing (see picture attached), will those bolts fit after the bracket is removed, or were there other bolts installed there before the previous owner installed the bars?

Hi Jay.

Yes there was originally 2 shorter bolts fitted there. Those bolts you have come with that piece of the crash bar so should sell with it really. With the capped nuts that secure it all they probably would not clamp down once the bracket is removed. Here is the part number info to buy new original bolts from Yamaha or you could just go buy a couple of standard bolts. I think 8mm x 50 mm. (So a little shorter than u have)..
