Coolant level regularly dropping

Mokital

Recommended Posts

I've recently bought a T7 with 17k miles on the clock. It's supposedly had regular on time servicing.

I've just noticed a big drop in coolant and after topping up to nearly full and after riding 100 miles it's dropped to a quarter full. Oil window is full and also looks dark brown. I suspect that my coolant is getting into the engine.

I've had the rad cap off and all looks clean and no signs of oil contamination.

Any thoughts or experiences with this?

Many thanks

You did not mention is the coolant disappering from the reservoir or from the radiator.

I had two issues with the coolant disappering from the reservoir.  Found out that both times the reservoir cap was loose.

It was loose from the engine side. So when you made a quick look, everything seemed to be fine.

Now the cap has stayed on it's place. Just a tought.

Run the bike for a few minutes to get the oil circulated then back off the oil drain plug and drain a cup of oil out into a clean, clear container so you can check it for contamination. You’ll get a better idea vs just peeking through the sight gauge. Post a pic here, I’m sure we’ve got some experts that can tell you wether or not you’ve got coolant in your oil.

Thanks guys for all your quick help much appreciated - i did a complete oil/filter change (oil was dark brown) so i can now see the oil in sight glass at correct level and coolant reservoir at half way mark cold. After a 20 mile round trip things are looking ok so far 🙏

I'm hoping it was the previous owner letting coolant get way too low and with too much oil that triggered my worries. Plus also the fact it's difficult to see the coolant as a T7 newbie.

Will report back if coolant starts disappearing again.

Thanks for having my back. 👊20240814_152129.jpg.6cf912cc186049fd929b665936bd1968.jpg20240814_141459.jpg.b59ca88a8d14f7d2e95594e76f4308f2.jpg

Just to add...i went 10/40 fully synthetic to clean her internals better from the mucky oil previously - I'll then make an early oil/filter change when the oil gets dark or after 1000 miles- that's if the problem is fixed!
