Any Consensus on most Comfortable Seat for T7?

I didn't know anyone was comparing sargent seat pans to corbin, seat concepts,  etc

I just assumed that all of the seat reupholsterers were just buying new seat pans from an Asian manufacturer somewhere.

Corbin and Sargent make their unique seat bases, specific for each bike

That is why their seats are wider and offer more comfort over others

Whstever you do to the Yamaha oem seat bases, it’s a compromise as the plastic is too narrow and the frame rails underneath where you sit, are exposed

Thanks, I read through your methodology.  I'd like to try it but trimming the top and dishing the centre are a bit intimidating....if you mess up, there's no turning back.

You can probably pick up a pretty cheap stock front seat to work with

That makes sense.  I presume Seat Concepts does the same thing?

I'll look on Fleabay and Kijiji.  If there's any T7 owners in sw Ontario who already have an aftermarket seat and want to sell me their OEM seat,  let me know.

No maybe not, I  think SC use the oem seat base - well I had a DRZ with a SC on it and it was on a Suzuki base

So Seat Concepts sends you the foam and the cover for the tall comfort seat...they don't actually make the seat, so the pan will still be the narrow OEM seat pan, so I'm thinking that the comfort improvement will be good, but not as good as a Corbin or Sargent.  I'm thinking about giving the Touratech,  though, as they are currently available so there won't be any waiting for the seat.  SEEING that we are having an usually warm and dry fall in sw Ontario, I'd like to get something soon.

Has anyone compared the Touratech to the Corbin or Sargent?

Got a sergeant seat there was almost no foam in the main part, so extra foam and a gel insert fitted all day comfortable now.

From what I've read, the Sargent is the most comfortable seat for the Tenere.

I bought the Touratech tall comfort, which appears similar to the Seat Concept tall comfort seat.  I'll let you know how it works when I've done a 500 mile day. The best review I've seen of the Seat Comfort seat is this:

I had Tom Simmons build me a seat using the one piece rally seat pan. I wanted a flat one piece seat I could move around on. It works great for me.

  • 2 weeks later...

Longish read, but I thought I'd add my latest T7 seat venture result here. Apparently my second time was a charm with a Sargent.

For background: My T7 came with an OEM Rally seat when I bought the bike lightly used, but with a ~31.5" inseam that was too much of a reach when off-road so I replaced the Rally with a standard OEM seat. Overall I've been pretty happy with that standard seat over 18k miles, doing numerous 350ish mile days in relative comfort as long as those miles included standing during long off-road sections.

I then bought a new Seat Concepts one-piece comfort seat during this forum's group buy in 2021, but what was supposed to be standard height wasn't (about 3/4" taller than stock at its lowest point) and the SC made my butt numb within 30 miles on every ride so I sold it on a few weeks later and went back to the much better (for me) stock. With the exception of the SC seat on the DRZ400 I just sold, none of the six or seven SC seats I've tried on numerous bikes have worked for me.

In 2023 I grabbed a used Sargent I saw posted for sale, but that seat had a distinct, funky ledge midway where the foam dropped down into a wide, cupped seating area at the rear of the seat. That ledge was just where I sat when forward on the seat when riding twisties, and it was like Sargent had decided you must sit all the way back or suffer the consequences. Sold that on too and went back to stock but kept wondering if that seat had been altered as I've never felt that ledge/drop-off on any other Sargent I've owned.

When I saw a few weeks ago that Sargent was having a Black Friday sale (18% off), I decided to give it another shot and ordered their regular height rider seat with the grippier DTX cover, Grip zone sides and no welt. One of their previous seats on another bike I owned had that welt, and every time I got up on the pegs the welt rubbed on my inner calves above my boot tops until they were sore, so never again. Why you have to pay extra to have an additional, unnecessary item NOT installed is something I'll never understand, but c'est la vie.

Compared to OEM:

Only one 135-mile ride on the new Sargent so far (all on pavement, and I made it a point to sit the entire time) and no discomfort whatsoever. This seat has no noticeable ledge like the previous Sargent, so sitting forward when at a stop or when hitting the twisties is OK. The height is indeed the same as the OEM stock seat. The only (very small) negative I noticed is because the Sargent foam is so firm, very small road bumps (frost heaves, etc.)  are now felt that never were before. It's like the tires all of a sudden have 100 psi in them, but that's a small price to pay for distance comfort.

After enduring the T700 ass burn I decided to do something about it. The following is my solution I posted earlier this year. And yes it made a BIG difference in comfort. Click on the link/picture to expand to original size so you can read it.
