Red dot location on Perelli scorpion?

Hi all. Shortly after I bought my 2021 Tenere I mounted some MOTOZ TRACTIONATOR RALLZ tires. They worked great off-road, but we’re a little buzzy on road. I realized I wasn’t doing as much aggressive off riding as I thought I would do so I just put the OEM Pirelli scorpions back on. However, when I did, I didn’t pay attention to the location of where that red dot on the side of the tire should be. Now, when I drive down the road, I hear a very, very subtle womp womp womp coming from the rear. (I suspect if I let someone else ride my bike, they wouldn’t even notice it .) No shakes or hopping, but I find it annoying. I’m thinking that the tire should’ve been mounted with the red dot either close to the valve stem or opposite the valve stem so it would be better balanced. If anyone still has their OEM tires on could you let me know where that red dot on the rear tire is in relation to the valve stem? Is it next to the valve stem or opposite on the rear tire?

Thank you! I did try looking for the answer on this site and on the Pirelli site but couldn’t find it. I appreciate your help.👍

The red dot is on the tire to help with balancing. If you put it next to the valve stem, you minimize the amount of weight you need to add to balance the wheel.

When the tire makes a thumping noise, it is either out of balance or out of round. Did you balance the STR when you mounted it?

Yes, I knew the red dot had something to do with balancing but I wasn’t sure if it was supposed to be opposite the valve stem or next to it. In relation to where it should be, my red dot is about 100° off. I’m gonna rotate the tire to where it should be and see if that solves the problem. No, I’ve never actually balanced it. The ride is smooth, and the tire doesn’t actually hop at all that I can tell. It’s just a very subtle womp womp womp that don’t think most people would even notice. I do and it’s annoying. The tempo speeds up the faster I go, but doesn’t seem to be affected by whether the brakes are applied or not, or if the clutches engaged or not.

It will get better if you mount the tire in the right orientation, but I can't imagine riding on the street without balancing the tires. I even balance my dirt bike tires so they are smooth at 50mph. It's not hard or expensive to do it yourself, and only takes me about 10 minutes per wheel.
