One of my heros growing up was the very gifted Malcolm Smith who passed November 26, 2024. I'm linking a nice tribute from the AMA.  Godspeed Malcolm.

I'm going to miss his monthly columns in the AMA magazine. Time to go watch On Any Sunday again.

He was such a positive influence on US offroad riding and will be sorely missed.

A name almost as big as Malcolm was a woman named Mary McGee...

She died the day before Malcolm and as pioneers in the sport go, she had few, if any, peers.

This woman was a legend to Malcolm himself...   The original Baja Ironman was just ONE of her accomplishments.

Anyone, who was anyone in motorcycle and SCCA racing knew who she was and she was better than most.

While on a business trip to Riverside, CA a few years ago, one afternoon I headed over to Malcolm Smith Motorsports in the hope of actually meeting the legend himself. It was the most impressive dealership I've ever seen, complete with a Malcolm Museum section on the upper floor, but unfortunately I just missed him that day. He was in his late 70s by then but was told he still usually came in every day for a few hours.

Disappointed, when I went to the check-out counter with a copy of his autobiography, an On Any Sunday DVD and an old Motorcyclist magazine with a huge feature story about Malcolm that I'd brought along hoping for his autograph, the nice young lady asked if I could stop back the next day. She explained Malcolm was due in the next morning, and he'd gladly sign each item for me. When I went back the next afternoon I'd missed him again, but at least now I had the next best thing to shaking his hand.

RIP Malcolm, and thanks for inspiring so many riders over the years.
