Hey Mate, I've got 4,700 kms on the clock,  Sydney based and do a 25kms commute round trip from Eastern Suburbs to CBD...wish the commute was longer..:-) All general commute based needs are handled brilliantly by the T700. Filtering, quick off at the lights, comfort, height, visibility, being seen etc...plus I'm about to fit a 19" front tyre as I do 95% of my riding on the roads which should enhance the already highly responsive handling. Only bummer around town and at low speed and low gears is the snatchy throttle which is well documented on many modern bikes and not specific to the T700. I'm looking at a throttle tamer when a T700 specific one becomes available. Only other consideration is seat height depending on your inseam. I'm 6" and could flat foot comfortably however went for 30mm lowering bones as I wanted the rally seat which adds approx 35mm in height over stock. All said it's a brilliant machine....needs some tweaking based on your priorities..road or dirt however the base platform is truly superb. Happy to answer any other questions you may have. Be safe!

Hi everyone,

I only do short commutes in the suburbs, around 5km to get to the office and my job requires me to stop at several points on a daily basis within a 1km distance. Do you think the Tenere 700 2020 would handle this type of riding?

I am thinking to get a Xmax 300 but will have to say good by to these nice Sunday's trips...

Yep....of course the T700 could handle it the real question is would the Xmax handle this short distance, black top only , stop start duties more effectively, conveniently, cost effectively etc...Only you know the real answer however since you're asking my opinion I'd say the Xmax is the way to go.

Soo. For someone just starting to look into engine / intake mods for touring.. Should I look into swapping the intake to something more freeflowing? I don't really enjoy the snatchiness of the throttle response at low speeds either when I'm lane-filtering. Feels like it hesitates at times (which I imagine is partly the electric fuel injections?)..

Woahh...major can of worms you've opened here mate. Take a look at page 1 of this thread and scroll down to Timemachines comments made on April 30th. He's pretty much nailed it to a tee. However you may get others proudly stating there is no snatch and you need to learn to ride, or get a dirt bike and practise, or you're imagining it because my bike doesn't do that..yada....yada.
I can only share my experience which was major throttle snatchiness at take off and obviously highly pronounced in the lower gears which made slow speed tight maneuvering very unnerving. I had fitted a Rapid Bike Evo unit which sorted it out to about 80% satisfaction which I consider a result! Now my bike responds exactly the way I always thought it should. The US guys are reporting that Yamaha appear to have been listening to the numerous comments on this issue and their bikes appear to have been remapped to nullify the issue. To the naysayers out there....I doubt a manufacturer would have done that if all of us suffering from this issue were Shet, pansy riders in the first place....has the penny dropped?

Im guessing you find the lower gears 1 and 2 more  snatchy,  i changed the front sprocket to a 16 t instead of a 15. It significantly changed the ride. Smoother on take off and less revs at higher speeds.

This issue has been going forever and still people who don't feel it do not understand the nature of the snatchiness.

It only happens when you completely close the throttle (the ECU goes into deceleration mode) and you open the throttle again. It immediately jerks on power giving you a kick.

The throttle response is butter smooth as long as you do not completely close the throttle.

Throttle cable helps marginally as any sort of intake mod. You have to remove the fuel cut off from the ECU in decel mode with a remap.

Comutes to work 15 km most days.

How many kilometers it is on the way home are a diffrent thing, most days its quite a bit longer home.

Do you know an easy way to do this remapping?

It would be fantastic because this is the unique thing that I hate in this machine.

I commute. I love it. I commute about 100 miles a day. Between 35-90 mph in and out of traffic.  The T7 sits high enough to see and has enough power to pass with ease. The best thing is on the weekends I can go use the T7 how it's intended off-road. I purchased the T7 for a fun adventure bike, its just a huge benefit to be able to commute on it

If I commuted like this it would be perfect but mine is only about 3 miles now and my drz is probably better but am still taking the T7 mostly. The legal speeds never get above 40 mph. The engine is about up to temp when my commute is complete and I do notice the snatchiness but still not too bad. Overall it's a fine commuter for my purposes and will be better when I get my top box set up.

Did you try to take the slack from the cable out, that reduces snatchy throttle a lot 🙂

sorry if this is a n00b question... how do I do this? just got the bike 3 days ago

This is MT07 but T7 has the same procedure

Also, I would highly recommend get a hold of the manual here and study it so you don't risk of doing something you not supposed to.

I did this but now when the temp drops below 50, my throttle likes to stay open ever so slightly.  It drives me mad. I think I might have it on too tight 👀
