Headlight adjustment...

T7-Dave

Question

Did a search and found very little about this. Anyone have any luck with the headlight adjusters ? I aimed the bike at a wall, marked the position of the light and started turning the knob. It seems to move slightly after about 1000 turns but just barely. Is there a trick to it or does it take 1500 turns to make a real difference ? 🤣

Turned both my adjustment knobs on the headlights 2000 times and no detectable difference pointed at my inside garage wall.  Very poor beam of light on low, plenty width but it’s almost pointing down at the front wheel. On high is where I’d expect my low beams. I know they’re not working well because no oncoming traffic bright lights me when on high.

Maybe I need to turn the screws 4,000 turns.....

Mine adjusted themselves when I wedged in a couple chunks of hockey puck to stop the bobblehead problem!  Always seem to end up using chunks of hockey puck on my bikes for different reasons!

On my 2021 Tenere' I ended up needing about 30 - 35 counterclockwise rotations as you look directly at each knob.  Your beam should be a little higher on the right (in the US) to light up the side of the road.  Start with 25 if your low beam is basically useless as mine was.

I ised a socket which fit over the adjuster know and an electric drill/ power ratchet

it adjust pretty quick this way.
step one is to remove the side windscreen wings.

Make sure you are viewing the headlight with somebody sitting on the bike as if they were riding. 25 feet from the wall on a level surface is usually the standard. It should be easy to see changes this way.

as far as how many turns should it take? Depends on headlight design.
