Put the T7 on a Scale, Starting Numbers

Hello Everyone, 

I wanted to get a starting point (weight wise) with my T7, and thought people would find this interesting as well. 
This is a Canadian Tenere 700, 
Full tank of fuel  (filled to the brim, took my time to top her off)
100% stock, no options, no accessories
Includes tool kit under seat, but no owner manual.
Bike has some dead bugs on it and a bit of dirt (277km on the odometer)

Included Canadian motorcycle license plate

Drum Rolllll........

Bike Weighs in at:    455 Lbs

 

Swapping in a featherweight LiFe battery, low seat, no tool kit under seat.
Bike Weighs in at:    451 Lbs

 

I'll update this over time, as I install more planned accessories. 

However, I know she will weigh in higher when I'm done. 

Goal is to keep her as light as possible, but well modded.

That is damn awesome...

 

considering most manufacture weight their bike @ 90% fuel

This is fantastic news! Thanks for doing this. I already know some things I will be removing to shed more weight from there. Almost makes me not want to install the 10lb center stand. And I am sure glad I got a full exhaust waiting to go on mine. New exhaust system only weighs like 12lbs!

Going for lightest weight possible here:

Full exhaust -9 lbs

Lithium Battery -4 lbs

Smallest possible tidy tail -1 lb

Remove passenger footpegs -2 lbs

Canister-ectomy, side reflectors removal, smaller signals, foot peg rubbers -1 lb?

Tubeless conversion -2 lb

ABS module and line removal -4 lbs?

 

Targeting 429 wet weight

 

Let us know if you weigh any of these items!

We can de-abs this thing?  I’ve never had a bike with abs

I saved 2 lbs by removing superfluous rear section.

Rear pegs and tail tidy takes away 1.5kg.. I've measured them and posted in a thread... Exhaust is a big weight saver... Looking at around 4 kg... So fully wet bike with 3 simple mods should be less than 200kg 👍

These are some excellent ideas folks!
I will utilize these ideas to try and keep the bike as low as possible, however the accessories I will be putting on will (hopefully) not bring the bike above its original stock weight. 

 

It seems almost every weight saving option, will be countered by an add-on I'll be putting on. 

Plan to lighten bike:
LiFe battery
Remove Passenger Pegs

SS slip-on
SS header exhaust (not until I get ecu re-flashed though) 

Remove charcoal cannister

Tubeless conversion

 

Add-ons that will add weight:

Heavy duty skid plate

Proper hand-guards

Double-take mirrors 

Stebel Nautilius air-horn

Heated hand grips

GPS

Some sort of soft luggage (giant loop or similar) 

 

Time will tell how the final weight will balance out.

 

I have thought about the abs removal, but thats too involved and could possibly cause problems in the future (removing mandated safety items may cause problems with insurance etc)

 

I should add that I'm also planning on losing about 10-15lbs off myself this summer.  I've dropped around 100lbs from my peak weight (made a huge difference in motorcycling) but 10-15lbs has snuck back on over the long brutal winter.

Yes. Heres a link to @tonyubsdell saving about 5kg. Removes a front rotor, abs pump, swaps to braided hoses etc.

I got my V-Strom down to 414lbs. I sure hope to drop a couple pounds of the T7 too...

On the morning after picking up my T700 I took my bike to the county dump after topping off the gas tank.

 

They have vehicle weight scales for vehicle going in (full of trash) and out (empty of trash). They charge by the weight for trash. Now these are designed to weigh garbage truck, big commercial truck, and ordinary personal vehicles. So, there may be as much as a 2% factor of error for a small vehicle like the T700.

 

My bike stock T700 weight was 260 lbs. stock.

I'm guessing there's a bit more than a 2% error on that scale.

We have a couple pallet scales at Our warehouse at work. I may try weighing the bike on one of those.
