Got a call from my yam dealer and was advised about a recall on the upgraded skidplates that come with the explorer packs apparently the rear brake lever can get stuck in the plate and prevent the use of the rear brake, they are getting a re worked plate and will be replacing mine, anyone else that has one fitted experance this issue or get contacted by their dealer?

Suggest to try and keep the old one.... I could self rework it to be ok I’m sure.

Dealer told me today that he has to send it back to Yamaha.

ah man, and I really liked the Yamaha one, works with the Outback Mototek bars on the bike and offers decent protection for the value (with 15% off for getting the bike at the dealer). I may just wait and hope the new ones come quick as most other skid plates are out of stock anyway

Wonder are USA ones already be modified, it is possible - but just my speculation, as it just might be the early UK 2019 ones. Though I doubt it, time will tel if US ones are recalled too.

Ah, Thought so, as that is what normally happens for recall.

I bought my Yamaha OEM heavy duty skid plate as a separate item (not as the explorer pack) and my rear brake is well away from it during its travel. I wonder if there were just some faulty batches?

Don’t know but I bought also separately. In my opinion distance is a bit narrow...

I’d say it may be about having a bike drop / crash and the lever bends inwards and can stick, surely just a bend it back out again. Thought, yeah may be the accessory pack unit ones where an issue.

I measured mine, got my bike in February 2020 I have around 15 mm gap,  yours seems much closer than mine, I think I did bend the lever away altho I can't remember exactly, when I get the plates swapped over I'll update on the changes.

Found this on YouTube. Yamaha solved it with a larger cutout:
