Swapping the Power Outlet Plug

JayIsaacJ

Question

Rocket scientists, Y'all,

Trying to figure a way beyond the plastic coverplates to replace the Tenere  cigarette lighter socket with a more useful piece

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Afrodog.

I have just performed this very thing.

I installed a USB/Voltmeter in the right opening. I got the USB/Volt meter from AliExpress. And at the same-time I ordered a HELLA cig socket from them also, as I also have a BMW RT that use the HELLA type Cig socket, which I have various things that I use on the BMW ( Charge Comm Headset, charge phone etc).

If you are asking about accessing this area, there are Youtube videos with a couple of guy's show the steps. It isn't too hard, you have to remove the Headlight module to get at the 2 socket areas.

You will also need to either cut into the Yamaha wiring of purchase the plugs & make harnesses to plug your device (socket) into.

I did the same with a USB plug from Amazon. I kept the left plug though and just swapped the thinner wire for a beefier wire with a 15 Amp fuse, then rerouted that wire straight to the battery. Works great for air pumps and other stuff that draws a lot of power.

The dealer I purchased from installs an SAE connector to the battery, which is the same connector I have on my pump.

I left the stock one on the left and installed an Aliexpress dual 3amp qc fast charge + volt meter into the right side. I used the proper plugs also bought from Aliexpress. The USB plug is threaded and the whole is just tooo tight to screw into so I judiciously filed the hole edges until it would screw in nice and snug. The wires comes out through the proper channels and can be accessed without taking headlights etc off. Just the right side panel.

Hope the info helps.
