Rear shock removal

Just received my Rally Raid upgrade spring. All the YooToobs I find show the rear wheel removed to drop the shock, although eyeballing my bike it doesn't appear like this is necessary. Can anyone confirm?

Correct. Rear wheel removal not necessary.  Here's a thread about spring compressor ideas.

I replaced my rear shock a few weekends ago with an Öhlins shock and I didn't remove the rear wheel also. I just had my bike on the center stand for the whole process.

Grease those rear shock and dog bone  mounting bolts while your at it.

I wrote this a while back. Dead easy and fast especially with centre stand. No need to remove the rear wheel.

Cheers
