Adventure spec side rack compatibility???

So, time for some soft luggage, not a fan of side racks but they seem kinda necessary to save wear and tear on side panels, my question is, has anybody fitted Adventure spec side racks in conjunction with B&B rear rack, it looks doable but was thinking best to ask the question first.

Hey Stevoh,  I have the AS side racks on my bike .....remember?  Drop over one day and try them on for size mate.

FYI Stevoh, I used adv spec racks to mount rackless enduristan (for reason you mentioned about saving side case scratches).  Just posted a ride report that shows it. I used a tusk tail rack to merge different systems (very minor adjustment of 4 extra washers on each side).  Worked well.

Yeah, I have the rally raid top rack and have been contemplating whether I want side racks.  It's my understanding is that because all these systems work off the two mounting points on the side of the bike, the hole spacing should work out for pretty much all of them. It will just be a matter of adding spacers/washers or removing material potentially.  But you should be able to mix and match most any of them (theoretically).

But I have a full graphics kit so I'm not worried about scratches.  I'm not convinced that I need the side racks but once I get my luggage I'll reevaluate.

@Macduncan Do you have any pics of your rack setup you could share? I just got my adv spec side racks and also have the tusk rear rack so I was trying to work out how to get them to go together. Your setup looks great - it would be great to see your setup and/or any feedback on what has worked for you with those components.

Hi Vlammy,  I am actually selling my bike this week, but I would be happy to answer any questions for you.  Specifically, what type of pic or info would help you the most?  I could walk out to garage and try to get the pic (angle) that would show you what you are curious about.  However, maybe this will suffice.  Cheers.  Mac

@Macduncan amazing - thanks for the help. I was dry-fitting things and if you could share an overhead view of the spacer/washer setup you used for the seat bolt anchor points that would be really helpful (and would save me some trial and error).
The other things I was wondering about are
- did you use the tusk or adv spec spacers as the starting point?

- did you only have to add spacers to the forward seat bolt anchor point? And how many?

- did you have to do anything special to get the footpeg anchor to line up or for the rear rack?

Really appreciate you sharing your setup - it is just what I am after.

Hi, Sorry that I may not have full recall as I set that up years ago.  However, I think I used the adv spec bolts as the tusk may have been too long.  I slightly recall that there is a stop point when screwing in those bolts, so maybe try both gently to see where each seems to want to stop, don't force further than allowed...  as I recall.  If others know of this stop point, they may jump in to clarify.

I did not recall which spacers I used as there were quite a few, maybe you can tell in the pic, some are chrome, but if some are black, that looks like what I used (you could paint them before install any color you wish). Looks like I used 3 black washers between tusk and adv spec, with one outside in front of rack, and on the back, 1 washers seemed to due. a smooth fit, but note that those washers are a bit thicker than normal ones.  The other reason I chose those spacers is that I wanted the rack to be as close to seat as possible because I intended (and did) use soft panniers.  Actually 2 types for different rides.  For 1-2 day camping trips I used the "B-base", which was fantastic and had super attachments (no passenger though).  For week trips camping off bike, I used the enduristan Blizzard.  I was concerned about vibration on the bolts damaging my bags so I slid a piece of tubing along side to deter rubbing on rack bolts so panniers would rest on tubing instead of bolts.  For the pic, I didn't grab the ones I actually used which were about an inch and half diameter, but I will take a pic using a much bigger green tube I quickly grabbed from the garage today just for demonstration.  I also included something else kinda strange as I have strap mounts on other bikes mounted as normal, sticking out, but I didn't like the way they stuck out on this set-up on T7, so I flipped them, and they worked good and didn't jab anything, like my boot. 🙂

Also, your other question, the footpeg anchor to rack lined up perfectly, but I think I recall when installing it, I took a few minutes thinking about the right angle, and which one was on which side??

All the best, MacIMG_9755.jpeg.b1e1e12daea637687e0f3897cbce82dc.jpegIMG_9758.jpeg.467474580747a2f3d8126151dd45edc0.jpegIMG_9756.jpeg.6f8e1faa86e8fb8f44b47a6c610891f8.jpegIMG_9757.jpeg.c408c85dc75bf71fc1c87b0c39beefb8.jpeg
