Ténéré 700 - Changing Rear Brake Pads

Changing Rear Brake Pads on the Ténéré 700 is a very quick service item to perform. The only tools you need is a 3 mm or 1/8" diameter punch and a hammer in order to perform the job.

 

Also, when I have to remount the rear wheel after changing inner tube or whatever  with fairly new rear brake pads in place, I find it quicker just to remove the two pads and remount them after the rear wheel is in place, than battling the limited space between the brake pads and the brake disc.

Pry the pads apart to give you some room when changing  the tire, just remember to pump the brakes back up after reinstalling the wheel.

I also didn't have a long enough drift punch to easily drive that brake pad retainer pin.

 

I just used a long Philips #2-#3 screwdriver from the sprocket side of the bike through the spokes to seat the brake pad retainer pin back into the brake caliper.

 

The OEM rear pads were rear replaced @ 8,150 miles.  I went with GALFER - FD165G1054 Sintered Rear Brake Pad - 1 set @ Camel ADV  as the replacement.
