Tenere 700 Fuel Pump Replacement Tea Bag Filter Yamaha does not list any service interval for the fuel pump & related filter, but it is worth ensuring that the entire fuel delivery system performs as per spec & with proper pressure. At 35k km or 22k miles the tea bag filter on my 2014 Super Tenere 1200 ES was dirty resulting in pressure drop that affected performance & fuel economy...the change is subtle & progressive so difficult to ascertain without a pressure test or physical inspection of the fuel pump. As with the Super Tenere 1200, Tenere 700 & other models Yamaha does not sell just the fuel pump tea bag filter, instead requiring buying the ent…

EDIT: Proper TQ settings is 16 ft lbs/22 NM max. The original service manual TQ setting instructions are wrong. -Admin Just wanted to let you folks now I had an interesting and disappointing situation with my new Tenere. Last week I reached my 600 mile break-in so I changed the oil. The drain plug from the dealership was on really tight. After draining the oil I put the plug back in. I followed the instructions in the service manual which called for 32 ft/lbs of torque. However, I managed the strip the threads and partially squash the strainer cover assembly (the OEM name). Of course, I was surprised and horrified. 😬 I rechecked my torque wrench a…

EDIT:OIL Sump Bolt max TQ setting is 16 ft lbs /22 NM, the original factory service manual settings were too high and caused many to strip their sump threads. Big thanks to our very own @TimeMachine for putting this card together. I printed it off and taped it to the top of my toolbox.

Tenere 700 Throttle Body Sync Procedure At 12k km it was time to check my 2021 Tenere 700's throttle body sync, which I suspect is out a little, as the bike is no longer quite as smooth as it once was. This requires some form of vacuum gauge & about 1 hour to remove body panels & tank to gain access to the throttle bodies, sync them & put it all back together....not a difficult job, just a little time consuming. Fitted a stiffer spring and at the same time I checked both the linkage and swing arm bearings. Seems that Yamaha has no grease at the factory. Two of the bearings had seazed. Managed to get them moving again. One of the bolts looked like it had been there for years. Bike is ten months old and 7000 km. I guess next on the list is the steering head.

This isn't a how-to.. more of my observations. Did my own clutch fix/recall along with my 1st oil change at 800 miles. Used Rotella T6 5w40. My go-to for the past ~10 years on all bikes. Few things worth mentioning: I'm not the 1st to say this: There is no need to undo the water pump. There is no need to drain the coolant. Yes, it makes the gasket cleanup harder, but overall still easier and less time consuming. One way to tell your clutch can work better: Get up to 4k rpm in 1st gear, pull in the clutch. If you feel like there's any engine braking happening, your clutch is dragging. * I soaked new plates for a full day.. can't really overdo it. * I cleaned the metal …

The Stock Rear Tire on the Tenere 700 is 150/70/18 . But many people are choosing to go with the 140/80/18 instead. Let's compare the two, shall we? PRICE. The most popular reason for going with the 140/80/18 size tire is that it costs so much less than the 150/70/18. Take a look at the Continental TKC 80. In 150/70/18 it costs $199.99. But in 140/80/18 it only costs $106.96. That is a huge difference in price that allows T7 owners to put that extra money towards something else for their bikes. Less Pinch Flats. Looking at the chart below, the 140/80/70 tire has a 6.7% taller sidewall. This reduces pinch flats when airing the …

I have used an Escort 8500 X50 RD (radar detector) for going on 20 years and it's still going strong. I had it installed previously on my FJR as that powerful 145 hp bike has the potential to land one in the pokey. Fast forward to my T7, which until just recently wasn't equipped with said radar detector as 72 hp seemed tamer and not as much a worry for doing stupid speeds. . A recent popo encounter changed that so on the T7 the RD goes. I previously used a H.A.R.D. heads up display system, but they've gone through the roof in cost and requires battery maintenance and it was just one more thing to fiddle with before riding. My current setup is utilizing a LED indicator fr…

Hey all, Just wrapped up installing a Garmin Zumo XT2 on my 2025 T7 and wanted to share the process since I didn’t see much out there with photos. Accessory Power Location (2025 model): Behind the right-side front fairing panel, there’s a 2-pin accessory connector — black (ground) and brown/blue (12V+). This circuit is ignition-switched and powers the USB-C dash port. Suitable for low-draw accessories like GPS. I’m planning to install Yamaha’s OEM heated grips when they're no longer backordered. I believe the 3-pin plugs are intended for those so I'm leaving them alone. Garmin's Motorcycle Power Cable: The XT2 motorcycle power cable doesn’t have an inline voltage …

Noticed this threaded hole on the GYTR rear brake and decided to DIY my own. A long M6 bolt goes through the axle block into the rear caliper bracket. This secures the caliper on the swingarm when the rear wheel is removed. Less struggle to line everything up when inserting the rear axle. The axle block is drilled to M6 screw clearance. I used a counterbore to keep it neat. Drilling the caliper bracket is tricky as the hole sits on the edge of the raised boss. Start with a small pilot hole and clearance the interfering part using a dremel. The bracket is tapped to M6 thread. The bolt is threaded in hand tight then loosened 1/4 turn, secured with a generous amount of…

After a recent performance award ( last one was 48 years ago, so guess I was due), I decided to upgrade my dash cam setup. Previous Dash cam This new setup is a INNOVV K3 dual cam ( front & rear) and has a ton of features such as imbedded GPS speed a video save feature takes up to a 256GB SD card, etc.. This is an older version as I believe the newest is a K6, but I digress. The install is fairly straightforward, but since it's a generic kit, the cable lengths are ample which requires some excess length management. I started by locating a spot under the seat for the DVR and the DC/DC Converter, which required me moving stuff around that was previously occupying that…

Hey all, Just finished installing the tail tidy I've been designing in my head for a bit. Took some inspiration from Adam at Motology and other "free" tail tidys but have not seen it using an Enduroplate. For those not familiar, and Enduroplate is a license plate holder for dirt bikes that is attached with durable rubber at the top and magnets on the bottom. The thought is when you wreck on your tail the license plate moves and snaps back into place as opposed to bending. I've had one on my KTM 300 for years and it has stood up to all of my abuse. While it's probably overkill on the T7 I know it will last, and I never doubt the amount of dumb stuff…

I purchased the GYTR two piece clutch cover and was disappointed that I was unable to retrofit my Camel clutch arm. I have read that this is also an issue on the 2025 model with the repositioned clutch spline. I initially fit the OEM clutch arm, but was not happy with the heavy clutch pull, so I decided to try to adapt the longer Camel arm. I ended up using the OEM cable holder but spaced the front mount out about 10mm to provide a better angle for the extended arm so it was not hitting the cylinder. I used a 10mm longer bolt with the spacers. This also allowed some extra clearance for the 12 mm clutch cable bolts that were very close to the cylinder. I was unable to use …

This discussion came up in another thread so I figured I would dig up some old photos and put together a how to. Why would you want to remove your charcoal canister? For me, it completely solved the hot start issues I was having. It also saves about a pound. You now have some extra space on the bike to store.... tools? Whiskey? Snacks? The possibilities are endless. You’re going to need some vacuum caps and some new fuel line. The prep work involves requires removing some side panels and removing the gas tank. Consult other threads or your shop manual if you haven’t done this before. It’s an easy job, just take your time. Once you have the ta…

Unfortunately, my T7 sees more miles on pavement than it does offroad. Last summer, I put a lowering link on it, slid the forks up an inch & was surprised by how well it handled. Over the winter, I was down the eBay rabbit hole & I found this, New projected started. I've seen spoke wheel supermotos done, but I didn't want to have to deal with tubes & wanted to use radial tires. The other thing I liked is that MT-07 wheels use the same rotors, sprockets, cush drive, & bearings as the T7. I wanted to swap between the two wheelsets without swapping chains. I know gearing will be shorter; I'll find out how much of an issue it is when I ride it. I bought a M…

I know this will be controversial and is not endorsed in any way by any one other than me. Call me crazy but I like the stock exhaust position. I also really like my Yoshimura system. I do however acknowledge the vulnerability of said set up so I decided to reinforce the hanger. Yes I know it will transfer load to subframe but it has taken some hits and all seems well. One in particular the whole weight of bike on to a root. Signs of what can be seen on muffler. Any way here are a couple pics for anyone interested. I did get the idea from somewhere else but that option was spendy.

I pulled the charcoal canister & hoses off my T7 today, this is what I took off. I pulled the seat, all the front fairings & the tank off to do this. The two hoses to the right are vacuum lines the hook to the throttle bodies & the hose pointing down is the fuel tank overflow line. I cut the canister rubber mount sleeve to remove the assembly from the bike, it is captured by the starter. It could be removed intact, but the starter would have to be removed/loosened to do so. Keep & reuse the little in line roll over valve & portion of line that runs to the tank vent. Right throttle body vacuum nipple. This is from the…

Hello chaps, since I have probably been the first to make this conversion it might be a good idea to write a how to make this happen the way I did it and give people as much information as possible to do themselves if they wish to do so. What is needed: Hubs : stock or aftermarket, I choose the stock ones and they look great. You can either buy from yamaha or sacrifice your own wheels like I did. Spokes : I haven't measured mine yet but I know they are beefier than stock ones on the back and are made out of stainless, the wheel builder has done them bespoke to match the hubs and the rims together. Rims : I have gone for Exce…

After noticing that the bolt appeared loose which supports my T7's Huzar exhaust at the frame exhaust hangar, when I tried to tighten it the nut tack welded to the ring encircling the mid-pipe broke completely free. I believe that one of the nut/ring tack welds had already broken making the bolt appear to be loose, and with just a little torque when trying to tighten the bolt the other weld then broke free. I happened to find in my toolbox a #28 stainless steel worm clamp with a small L-shaped stand-off bracket tack welded to it (it pays to be a pack rat). More luck, as the bracket already had the perfect size hole drilled for the Huzar support bolt. New clam…
