Yamaha Crash Bars Hardware Question

I just picked up my Tenere and was checking stuff out. It came from the dealer with crash bars installed and I noticed that I can't get any of my sockets to fit on this bolt:

It is #12 in this photo I found while searching the forum.

I don't have the instructions. It seems like it should be 17mm but I can't get any of my 17s to bite on it. Do you need a thin-wall 18?

From memory I had to thin down an 18mm. Lucky I have a lathe as buying one would take a week! The joys of living in the bush.

I use a flat screwdriver to hold the screw head while I tighten or loosen the nut, as you can see in this post:
