Stearing bearing

Recommended Posts

Hi

Dealer is not recomanding lubrification of the stearing bearing on my 2021 T7. I already have 42k km and user manual recomand to do this task every 20k km.

He mentionned we check it but no repack with Lithium grease. He said it's a 5 hr job min 500$. On my part I usually go by the book (or less between recommandations) but this is a 500$ question. Anybody has opinion on this?

The dealer recommended you not to do this? Get that in writing. Good luck if you have a warranty claim with neglected maintenance. 5 hour job... 🤣

I have 12500 miles on my T7 and will repack the bearings with grease/adjust in the next month or so when I install a new front tire…..should take me about 2 hours working at a leisurely pace in my garage.

Jeff, happy you are packing on the miles!!

My thoughts are if you do it yourself, you will know you used plenty of grease and maybe can skip the next one or two greasing intervals. Other than corrosion, I don't worry too much about the steering head bearings.

I've never lubed the steering head bearings on any of my past bikes.  Doesn't mean that they were lubed up to par but I also have not experienced any trouble in that respect either.

Has anyone done this to their T7?

Thanks to all.

After looking at some video on the subject I trust the dealer ...for now. I understand that this can't lead to catastophic failure.

Next time I have a big job on the front I'do it...

If yamaha recommends it then do it. I dont trust dealers as only there to make money and probably cant be arsed in doing it as they orob make more money doing something else. If it moves, oil or grease it!

I doubt that a specialized mechanic needs five hours for the job.

Here are instructions that I made a while ago. Funny that the topic is not pinned.
