Weird 'Frozen' Screen

EDIT: There seems to be at least one other thread on this issue, but with no conclusion, so any other experiences welcome.

 

Had a cracking day covering just over 250 miles in a lovely part of the UK. Mainly B roads with a couple of guys on road bikes.

 

One of them got a puncture late on and with no kit to repair it, he's now waiting for recovery.

 

Anyway, I was tootling along and my speedo was reading 56mph and was in 4th gear with three bars left on the fuel level.

 

Half an hour later I was still doing 56mph, in 4th gear,with same amount of fuel left. Same an hour later.

 

Eventually stopped, turned bike off and on and all worked fine. I was on very little fuel, but luckily close to a filling station.

 

During the issue, indicator light operated, bike showed when in neutral, so just the main LCD froze.

 

Anyone had this happen? Any thoughts on what it could be?
