MN and WI day trip.

Took the T7 out for possibly the last ride of the season. We have firearms opener that has started and often by the time thats done we have snow on the ground.  This was a nice 176 mile trip (to empty, glad I had my spare fuel with) mostly off the tarmac.

GPS had shown this as a road. It definitely ended long before this pic.

This trip was more about going to where looked good on the GPS- had no destination.

Fire tower on the GPS? Sounds good to me.

I love these twisty single lane roads almost as much as the off-road.

WI has areas of what seem like endless sand sometimes.. This was the easy stuff. I didn't stop to take pics of the tougher stuff- was too busy fighting it! Almost crashed the bike trying to slow for a DNR truck LOL. Then almost crashed it again in the deep sand a few miles later in front of a older couple in a SXS.

To go wherever the GPS shows.. Not so sure this was a road but it was fun.

Thanks for sharing your memories of that ride.  Beautiful country side.  I think thick sand sucks as well.  I would have crashed.

Deep sand does suck but sometimes there is just something that attracts me to the fight.

@Hibobb I sent this to a buddy to show the general area I was riding that day.  This may not be exactly where the tower was but is the gist of its whereabouts.

Earlier this summer a buddy and I rode from Lake Superior to just about Iowa. We mostly followed the St Croix river on the way down. Then went much deeper into WI on the way back north. Several stretches of the St Croix were good riding but I much prefer the WI side. You have some good ridding in your area I imagine!

Nice pics. Looks like a great ride. I ride here in Mn. I need to find out more about off road motorcycle rules in Wi. Lots of trails northeast of  Danbury, I ride snowmobile through that area sometimes. What tires do you have. I will be needing new tires very soon. Thinking about Trail Max Mission tires

@x-treme I have the Motoz Tractionator GPS. I have a review on them somewhere in here. Probably the tires section.

WI has some interesting motorcycle rules. It varies by county. (And greatly from some to others). I certainly don’t know all of WI rules but I do know that some northern counties allow motorcycles on most trials (without any special trail permits). Some trails are specifically marked that they aren’t allowed, so ya gotta watch for those too. But then there are other counties like in Danbury that do not allow motorcycles on any of their trails! Danbury is not 2 wheel friendly. So do your homework I guess.

Also take what I’m saying with a grain of salt. I don’t ask every year what’s allowed and what’s not. This is just as of the last that I know of..

@DT675 Have you been on the motorcycle trails in the Nemadji State forest? I think that area gets a lot of traffic and the trails are tore up. Danbury (Burnett Co) does not like 2wheeled vehicles for some reason. They really cater to the ATV/SXS crowd $$$. I Like to find areas that are off the beaten path. I will be researching Washburn and Douglas counties to see what their rules are.  I looked at the Chaparral  tire shoot out results and the Tractionator GPS is highly rated. I also like the Trail mAx Mission although they are a bit heavy.

@x-treme

Sorry for the late reply.  I definitely don't have my notifications configured properly.

Yes I've ridden hundreds of hours worth in the Nemadji area. But your right, they are rough "dirtbike and ATV" trails mostly and I don't really take my T7 through there much except for the fire roads. Lots of fun fire roads to explore in that area. I find myself riding northern WI area's quite a bit, I just keep finding more and more places to go every time I head out and I love the sometimes challenging terrain it can provide.  Depending what you mean by "off the beaten path", the northern Bayfield peninsula area has a lot to offer too.  Both Duglass and Bayfield counties have endless riding potential, as long as its not single track your looking for (and some ATV specific trails are a no-no too). I don't seem to spend much time on 2-track ATV or single track on the T7 anyway but narrow twisty fire roads I'll take all day long.

If your ever up in this area I'd be happy to tool around with ya.

DT, I’m not interested in 2track or single track. Yes Bayfield/Valhalla area has lot of fire roads. I am familiar with the ATV and snowmobile trails up there. I would like to find more roads up near Superior and south of there along hwy 35

Their are alot of good roads to ride along hwy 35 south of superior (moslty on the east side) like around the Solon Springs area.  Actually, well below Solon Springs, a bit north of Solon Springs but all moslty on the east side, like all the way out to Iron River and beyond.  All very good riding, lots to explore out there.  The terrain can be a little sandy at times, but mostly all good.

A little solo Wisconsin ride today. All snow and cold, all day

You are wacko.... I am in the house on the computer with a coat on. Gray skies and lousy weather for the next 10 days. Hoping for a 50+ degree day in December before I get out again....

Keep riding terrain like that and you can ditch that centerstand!

I was prepared.   I recently picked up a set of insulated riding pants, use a Milwaukee heated sweatshirt, face mask and heated grips with with the handlebar covers. I actually stayed pretty warm through most of it. I do admit though, this is my bottom and the cold did slowly creep in after a few hours.

Hey, you have more snow down there than I have!  I bet you’ll be getting on that thing making braap braap noises all winter long!

That was an unintentional surprise!  Obviously that gravel was not set and it wasn’t quite cold enough to be frozen yet!  It was rather difficult to get out of. I thought I might have to lay the bike over on it’s side and drag it out- it was pretty suctioned in.  But the little rock I found was able to act as my center stand, just long enough to get on the other side, make a beveled rut behind the tire and heaaaaave it out. Slowly.
