Urban Dakar Warrior Bike?

Carlton

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I have been riding and commuting year round in all weather conditions for many years, but only and exclusively on sport bikes:  three Triumph Daytonas, a Ducati 1098, two BMW S1000RRs and two Yamaha R1s.  My 2012 R1 is the bike I have loved the most but I am overdue to stop beating up these bikes in cold and wet weather.

I thought about a BMW F800 GS, but as a Yamaha loyalist, I fell in love with the Tenere as soon as I saw the photos.  And I imagine is will be just as wonderfully reliable and trouble free as my R1s vs the Euro manufacturers?

Having never ridden an adventure style bike, I would appreciate any advice regarding the potential for this bike to have say, Mad Max style rally lights, crash bars, specific tires etc to use as an Urban Dakar Warrior bike - whether in bad weather, heavy traffic and / or light offroad and trail riding once in a while on the weekends?

I would be so excited to learn some adventure style skills vs road bike riding, and to give the sport bikes a rest from the rain, salt and sand etc.

Best regards to everyone and look forward to hearing from you.

You’ll have to keep the spokes cleaned and rust protected. They tend to corrode if not cosseted.
