Fuel Map switch

Fraz's T7

Question

Has anyone tried using a fuel map switch seen on some dirt bikes. I know nothing about them, and don't know if it's even possible.

When I had it originally tuned/flashed for optimum performance it rode amazingly but was rather thirsty. It got rid of the snatchyness when on/off the throttle, and response was brilliant, however it decreased the fuel economy and range by about 10%. I had it de-tuned a bit so fuel economy was almost stock and mitigated the snatchyness.

Is there a way to "flick a switch" from one tune to another? Be brilliant to rip the back 40 in fun mode, and for longer trips between fuel stops switch to a more efficient map.

Powercommander has that possibility but with the hardware and proper maps made it's a lit of money.

So you can't do it using the original cpu?

Not as far as i know.
The original ECU contains one map just as a powercommander but the latter has a map selector you can connect to the device in which you can load 3 maps if i remember correct.

So ~$400 for the PC and $400 for dyno and turning. Plus map switch and stuff probably $1000 vs just flashing the original ecu for $400.. Ya that's a hard one.

Honestly I've been down this road, done it, my brother in law has that specific PC setup... but I really don't see the use.

I mean, sure, you can have a map that's super sparing for maximum fuel economy and one for performance (basically what he does) but my experience anyways is you end up putting it in top performance mode(or whatever suits your riding style best) and just leaving it there.  It's a lot of extra money for something that's basically a novelty and rarely actually useful.

Ya that sounds about right. It's pretty fun all tuned up haha, I can see why. Only thing is I do a couple weeks a year where gas stations are very spread out and that extra 30kms of range is literally the difference between walking or not, or at least having to add hours of riding off the route to get fuel. Even with a Jeri can on the back. But for the price, could just add some fuel bottles and leave it on fun mode.
