How to add 3000 km to the odometer?

edelrabe

Question

Hi, I've replaced my dashboard (speedometer) on my Yamaha Tenere 700 and now I need to adjust mileage on it to be the same as old one (+ ~3000km).
How I can do it without riding the motorcycle? Is there an easy way?

I doubt an owner could do it for fraud reasons, but maybe the dealer could?
either way, I’d make an entry, with photos, in your service book.

I think it's not possible for an owner to do it. And I also think your dealer won't be able to do it (at least officially...).

I wouldn't worry about it.  It's only 3000 km after all.  Not like you had 20 or 30 thousand km on it.  I know you'll advise the new owner if there should ever be one because you're a good guy.

Thanks guys, looks like a lot of hassle, I'll just leave it like this.

I had similar issue on older bike, where I snapped the speedometer cable. After getting new one I tried to offset the difference (couple hundred of kms) with the drill connected to one "wheel end" of the cable. After several minutes I gave up worried that my drill would fry 🙂

Well, you could put your bike on the centerstand, frontwheel in the air. Buy a fishing rod, put cheese on it and hang it in front, get a rat and let the rat run on your tire, trying to get the cheese....🤔

Now I'm just curious. Where is the speed sensor? There are 2 ABS sensors on the front and rear wheels, want to check which one (or both) is responsible for speed and therefore for odometer. I bet it's the front one.

I think the odo has a different pickup than the speed. The odo is usually more accurate. This is at least the case with my Crosstourer.
