Rev Limit 6k When at >60% Throttle

sethwaterfall

Question

I've been putting in some highway miles recently and I've notice a weird issue.

When I am at greater than about 60% (a little past half way) throttle position my bike totally cuts out at 6k and won't accelerate through that RPM. It pulls strong to 6k and then BAM, it won't go any higher. This means I can't get above 80mph in 6th gear. It just sits at 6k no matter where I am in the throttle position from 60% to WOT.

I can wind it out in 2nd or 3rd gear and keep the throttle at less than 60% and it will easily hit the red line so I don't think I'm in some kind of ECU safety mode or anything. But it really seems like I am. Or is this normal?

I'm vexed.

It was the aftermarket air filter I had installed. Pulled it and the pre filter and I'm back to normal.

@sethwaterfall What brand filter were you using? Was the filter soaked with that sticky air filter oil? I have had dirt bikes run rich when I used to much oil on the foam filter....
