Valves checks

Alain Maurice

Question

Hi,
On a Tenere 700.
I'm trying to remove the valve cover and it don't pass between the top frame of the bike and the cam shaft gears. Has anyone ever removed the valve cover without removing the engine? If yes, how did you take off the cover of valves.
Thanks a lot

@Alain Maurice This discussion might help you and welcome to the forum.  You must have one of the higher mileage T700's around to be doing a valve check already.

The manual doesn’t state engine removal is necessary, I’d really doubt if it was.

Some bikes just have the absolute bare minimum of clearance available and there is a specific motion needed to remove the cover. I am guessing this may be another one!

@Alain Maurice Here's your answer. An excellent video description starts at 5:52. FWIW, I have a Beta 498cc four stroke that makes this valve cover removal look easy.  After one learns the technique and can twist and tilt in the right sequence,  it's fairly easy.  Watching this video, the T7 appears to be fairly straightforward.

(Spoiler alert: no engine removal necessary!) 😉

I managed to remove the valve cover but I had to remove all the wires that pass above the valve cover.

Than you very much,
