Single front brake disc mod

Enska_kuski

Question

I can see some  Tenere owners have been taking right side front brake disc and d away. (for more offroad type of riding to reduce weight)

Any advise what (size) master cylinder is used for single brake disc mod ?

A 13mm master cylinder should do the job nicely. Honda Cr250r one is very common and readily available

I’m running a 13mm. Feels slightly wooden. I might be happier with an 11mm. But I’m also running the oem rotor. I did not go with a large rotor yet. I run a large 320mm rotor and a 13mm on a caliper with identical piston diameters on my 950 adventure (450-lb off roader) and love it. Figured this t7 would be lighter so the smaller rotor (which is not even 10% smaller than the expensive larger one) would suffice. So far it’s sufficient and shoukd be getting stronger as it beds in.

First of all you want a master cylinder that has a brake light switch. Secondly it needs to fit the brake hose you want to use (front attachment like in the T7/ side attachment and so forth). Third you want one that has a place to bolt on the mirror.
After some research I use a chinese knock off of a Yamaha WR250R master cylinder wich has them all, comes with a short brake lever of its own, and fit to the oem T7 brake line.
It needed a small mod to the brake lever but other than that works good so far few months in -

In general every single disc master cylinder will do the job - i know a guy who uses a Yamah X-MAX 125 scooter master cylinder with no issues.

That was me using the Nmax brake pump.

You need to have a certain correlation between the piston diameter of the brake caliper and the master cylinder. The N max MC has an 11 mm piston diameter. Works quite well although I have lost some brakepower.

Also the cheaper MC's like the ones used on scooters have much more friction in the mechanism than the ones used on MX bikes like the YZ.

Ideally you would need one from a WR, which should have a brake switch and mirror mount.

No brake switch
No mirror bracket
No Bueno

Funny as that is what I bought and it has;

1. brake switch

2. clutch switch

3. mirror mounts

4. but not an 11mm piston as stated in the ad

Your reply led me to verify what I eventually did.  Even though I'm still using the clutch side, I bought this, swapped over the red items, and is what I've been using for over a year with a 320mm disc and Motoswiss bracket and has;

1. brake switch

2. mirror mount

3. 11mm piston as I removed it and measured it.
