Tenere 700 Review

I picked up my Tenere about 10 days ago give or take. What an amazing bike this is, still breaking the engine in and have only done 300km.

The engine is lovely, very smooth power delivery and a nice amount of torque. Really I can't wait to get the first service done so I can open the engine up a bit. Very restrictive atm but thats to be expected. The display is basic but has everything you might need on it, gear, time, various temps, speed etc. Stock tyres seem to be good on everything but muck where all they do is slide about. Suspension seems good too but I will probably play around with this as time goes on, I just have it all on standard settings atm. Mirrors are good and offer plenty of visibility. Coming from an MT10 I can tell you thats great as on the MT10 all I had visibility of where my elbows. Headlights are ok, MT10 was definitely much better so I will most likely stick a set of LED lights up front to help in this regard. At present I can't think of anything else to report on but will definitely get a little more comprehensive in the not so distant future.

In terms of where I've taken the bike - I've taken the bike all over the wicklow mountains and have taken it 'off road' right away. Theres a few spots I know that I've taken it. No proper trails yet so all fireroads and some have been rougher than others. If anyone is familiar with Carrick mountain in Wicklow, this Tenere has been to the top of it. Fireroads in carrick are a nice mix of muck to very loose rocks. Tons of fun and I'm looking forward to some proper off road trail riding.

So far I have fitted crash bars, Givi Top Box, Yamaha headlight guard, Oxford heated grips and today I stuck on some R&G engine casing protection.

I will update this thread as I get to do more on the bike but initial impressions are very good. I have ordered the lowering bones and lower seat as I think I would be a little more comfortable if I was an inch closer to the ground.

looking good! what kind of crash bars are those?

Yeah I’d like to know also , I fitted the Yamaha ones today and wasn’t fully happy with them, they cover the tenere 700 decal and also the bolt to remove the side panel and I’m unsure if I’ll be able to remove the panels without removing the bars, they also seem to come with smaller bolts than the holes with spacers to fill the gaps🤷‍♂️

Cheers lads, very happy with the bike so far and a nice move from the MT10. Who knows I may get another some day when I have more money but for now the Tenere suits me perfectly.

As for the crash bars, they’re SW MOTECH. Seem great so far and will probably buy the additional bars that come across the front soon too.

So the bike is just over 1,000km now and it really is an incredible machine. The engine is not quite as smooth as my previous bikes (MT10). I find the bike just vibrates a bit but it’s not something that bothers me too much. Being able to open the throttle now is fantastic and the bike is getting about 54mpg of really mixed driving including off-road. I aim to record a video soon but in the mean time here are some pictures of today’s spin

Great and have seen that. Rode an MT-10 quite a bit at the Isle of Man TT last year. Superb machine.

A MT-10 would be good kit round Isle of Man, great range of grunt, for hills, tight and open bits 👍
