T7 Leads to Garage Reshuffling

After I recently realized my 2014 R1200GS was sitting in the corner of the garage more and more because all I wanted to do was ride my T7, I decided that meant it was time for a change. Although the GS has been a wonderful bike over my 74k miles of ownership for both on- and off-road use, the mission focus of both bikes was just too close.  Introduction of the bikes the day I brought the T7 home in 2021:

My wife hasn't ridden with me for a year due to a pinched nerve in her neck, but surgery earlier this spring has apparently corrected that and we hope she'll be ready to ride again next year. Accordingly, I decided a more touring-friendly bike with better weather protection and road comfort made sense for us going forward so yesterday I traded the GS for a 2013 R1200RT 90th anniversary edition.

I was about 40 miles into my ride home on the RT yesterday in low 40s F temps before I realized I hadn't yet turned-on/needed power to my heated jacket liner. I turned both the heated grip and seat settings from high to low about 15 minutes into the ride and remained very comfortable. Due to the quiet and smoothness I'm going to have to recalibrate my brain a bit, as I found I was running 80 mph a couple of times when I thought it was more like 65. Wow, definitely the most protection I've ever experienced on any bike I've owned and I think this'll be a great bike for future road-only trips, especially when going cross-country.

I’m sure she’ll be happier on the back of that. Looks like it’ll do motorways all day long
