Scotts Steering Damper/Safari Tank

I have ot found any discussion about this topic.

Does anyone knnow if there is any clearance issue to use the scotts SD with a Safari tank?

When the tank is new there is a small amount of clearance.

 

After several tanks of fuel, the tank has grown to the point of contacting the damper unit and has worn the gold plating off the damper.

 

I tried several time to use a heat gun and lever to increase clearance, but after a couple of months I gave up and removed the now very damaged SD.
