Oil Drain Gasket quality & type

rc_card

Question

Hi guys, quick question: looking for Oil Drain Gaskets, there are more than one type available for M14 - a flat one (like 2mm tickness) and a "donut" like shape... Does it make any diference? Is there any quality concernes when buying oil drain gaskets?

The flat style works fine for me.  I torque to 14 ft-lb (much less than spec, thanks to guidance of others on the forum) and no leaks.

I switched to a copper washer...because it's what I had lying around. No leaks. As stated above, keep the torque low.

I have a flat copper one, the donut type is what Yamaha uses but that's a one time use and i reuse the copper ones a lot of times.
Yes i know, they say you have to change them every time but that's just BS. I changed the one from my Honda Crosstourer with a oil change at 123.000km and only because my dealer gave me 5 when i asked for the copper ones instead of the donut when i bought an oil filter for the T7.
Just check for scratches and deformation, clean it and use it again with not too much torque (don't know how less because i don't use a torque wrench for it, just tight).

I reuse the original with a smear of Loctite 515 or Hylomar blue.

No leaks
