Garmin XT Dirt Roads

Recommended Posts

A riding buddy put me on to this yesterday.  Seems to work well.

I use Gaia as well as the Garmin, with Gaia having a better selection of dirt roads, but this tool in Garmin is ok as well.

There is a detailed description here:

So, what is KMTF? Not a new bike model or GPS, it is a Garmin file format that is known as a Theme. I think of it as an applied style to a map. The...

My buddy has done this with a file he has called DirtRoads.kmtf

I cannot attach it here, but PM me and I will send it.

Drop it into this directory on the Zumo (once it's connected to the PC, it will show up as a device/drive).

Then select the "Dirt Roads" theme on the Garmin as follows:

- Settings:

-- Maps and Vehicle

           Sets Maps Preferences

--- Map Theme (Garmin is the default)

----  Select Dirt Roads

It's the standard Garmin look but with thick brown lines for dirt roads.

You can turn it off by simply selecting Garmin under map themes above in settings.
