Water from swingarm?

leclerq

Question

This might be a really stupid question, but here goes:

As I was riding in rainy Luxembourg what I noticed a day later that when I tipped over the bike a bit, water came out of what seemed to be 'breather holes' in the end of the swingarm... Now I only ever had BMWs with single sided driveshaft swingarms, so I don't know how these fancy chain driven bikes are supposed to work. But is this considered normal?

@leclerq Yes, it's working as designed. The swingarm is a hollow casting with weep holes in each side, just forward of the rear axle adjuster block cutout. Those holes allow any moisture to drain out that might have entered through the rubber plug on the forward right hand side.

Correct, but just wanted to add a tangential comment ... Because the swingarm is hollow, some people use it to store stuff, like tubes. The access door is the rubber plug on the front right of the swingarm.

Now I was 90% sure you were messing with me...

Do other bikes have a 'secret stashing place' in their swingarm??

If theres water youre running on empty.

One side should be chain Lube and brake cleaner on the other

Take it to your yamaha dealer and ask for a top up 👍

This is normal. Also, there are 2 rubber plugs in the swingarm. One on the outer right hand side, and one on the inner left 'leg' of the swingarm. This one is hidden by the wheel. Make sure both are in place and sealed.
