The reasoning for...

Question

...the rod through the passenger footrests? I'm taking out the rear end; the suspension, the rear wheel, the swingarm. I'll be doing this when on its centre stand. So, is the bar here necessary when working via a centre stand or is it only needed with a stand stand only? Never worked on the T700 before...living & learning...thanks...

Since center stand isn't stock, I think this is their general method to support the bike from sagging when you remove the shock. I removed the rear shock using a trail stand and had no issues.

I think Yamaha also specifically says you shouldn't support the bike on the skid plate, so from that context it makes sense that they'd suggest another way to support it.
