Equivalents for OEM bolts/parts?

waffl

Question

Just curious if anyone knows how to find compatible bolts vs the surprisingly expensive OEM parts?

For example, the windscreen bolts cost 4 x €2,50 and the corresponding plastic washer 4 x €3,74 each and then €7 shipping!

I imagine Yamaha Part # 90111-05017 can be replaced by a €0,40 panhead M5 x 20mm bolt and the corresponding washer by an equivalent plastic washer for €0,01.

Total Price: €1,64 vs. €31,96

Thing is, I don't know for sure what the exact parts are, and the parts finder obviously doesn't tell you exact specifications. Is it as simple as measuring these bolts with calipers?

(Of course, I am also talking about non-critical components here)

Yes you just need to measure it ie 5mm =m5 like you said and the pitch of the thread. Next just select head type. I opted for black stainless.

I wish I could help. This bike has more fastener types than… insert inappropriate comparison here…

So for it’s my biggest complaint with this bike.
when I finish my list of what I replace them with I’ll share it.
